OVERVIEW

A unique design paired with high-performance electronics for a fun, portable playing experience.

Inspired by traditional classical guitar design, the SLG200S features a slim neck, thin body, and low action that lets players adopt a more aggressive style, allowing even those players who wouldn't normally choose to perform with a classical guitar to play it with ease.

The SLG200S's SRT Powered design recreates the body resonance of an acoustic guitar, but in a bodiless shape. Yamaha developed SRT Powered, collaborating with recording artists to create a system tailored to the unique properties of the SLG body and modeled after the tones of a high-end Yamaha acoustic guitar captured using a carefully selected microphone in a professional recording studio environment. By actually reproducing the sound of an acoustic guitar–right down to its natural sustain and decay–Yamaha lets guitarists experience the genuine body resonance, body tone and ambience of an acoustic guitar.

SRT Powered sound can even be mixed with the sound from the instrument's piezo pickups, allowing guitarists to be even more flexible in their creative endeavors. Since the SLG200S can virtually reproduce the sound of a guitar recorded with a microphone, players are free from complicated procedures involved in micing up a guitar when recording at home or in other settings.

The detachable top section of SLG's frame means that practicality and portability are way beyond that of a conventional guitar. The luxury gig bag provided can be carried with ease and fits into an aircraft overhead compartment with room to spare, so if you are on the go, your SLG200S can easily come with you.

The SRT system sounds very convincing while practicing with headphones, but the illusion breaks down if you try to record direct into a daw, or play through an amp. The older models with the LR Baggs system have superior sound quality when played through an amp, or recording direct. Neither the SRT or the LR Baggs system sound like a mic'd acoustic, but the Baggs system just sounded better to me. But this instrument is a practice instrument after all, so it works very well for that purpose.

Comments about Yamaha SLG200S Steel String Silent Guitar:

This guitar is well made and certainly an attention getter. I filed the bridge saddle down about an 1/8" and put extra light strings on it. This improved the "playability" 100%. The guitar sounds surprisingly good through a PA or acoustic amp. I added an EQ peddle and it really, really helped round out the sound. With these tweaks, you'll have yourself a "keeper"!

I travel a good bit and, so far, have only used the "Silent" guitar for that purpose. I can take it into a hotel, have fun with the instrument, and disturb no one.
It really does sound better than I expected and may be used for other purposes.

Comments about Yamaha SLG200S Steel String Silent Guitar:

I'm happy with the guitar after making a few modifications. I had to sand down the extremely sharp edge on the top / back, where your right arm rest on the guitar. It was cutting into my arm. I also lower the action, and now it plays nicely for me. The finish looks like nothing more than a coat or two of polyurethane. Definitely not a quality finish...

Comments about Yamaha SLG200S Steel String Silent Guitar:

I could not be more happy with this guitar! I purchased it to just "give it a try" and I'll tell you, this thing is a keeper. I plugged in the headphones and was impressed with the range of sounds that you can get though the pickup blend (I keep mine about 3/4 turn into the SRT stystem). I can sit and practice with my wife watching TV, and she has no issues with my playing.
Best yet, I plugged into my Fishman Loudbox Artist, and this thing sounds killer! I have no doubt that it will hold up in a stage performance, and the unique design provides a great look for performances (though I haven't played it out yet). Again, I could be happier with this guitar.

I really like the lightweight, packability, and tonal possibilities of this guitar. It's great for practicing when you need to be quiet and respectful of those you live around. I really had to dial the neck down when it arrived. I still don't have it quite low enough, but fine for now.
