The Yamaha YAS-26 is the only Yamaha student alto saxophone. It combines Yamaha’s production expertise with design elements of Yamaha professional saxophones to create an instrument with superior response, intonation and tone. It is Woodwind & Brasswind’s most popular alto sax for high school and college music programs.
Professional design and construction elements
One of the best-made student altos in the world, the YAS-26 has many features common to professional instruments. It has a yellow brass body, neck, bell and key material, and features a Front F key. Drawn tone holes and an adjustable thumb rest are also markers of a well-constructed instrument.
A reputation for durability
The Yamaha YAS-26 is designed for the advancing student, and counts durability as one of its most important attributes. Incidental contact is not going to knock anything out of alignment on the YAS-26. It features waterproof leather pads, which are also easily maintained. Features of the Yamaha YAS-26 student alto saxophone
Relative to its predecessor, the Yamaha YAS-23, the YAS-26 features a redesigned neck receiver that promotes fast response and ease of play. Unlike the YAS-23, it accommodates all other necks in the Yamaha line, which offers a real benefit to the advancing student. The new neck receiver makes the gradual move toward a professional sound less expensive than buying a professional horn.
The low B-C# mechanism has been improved as well. This ensures reliable closing of the low C# key, which in turns helps deliver a clearer and more easily controlled low register. The improvement in the key mechanism feeds into the neck receiver redesign in that the mechanics of the YAS-26 are so reliable they suffice throughout beginner and intermediate studies.
