OVERVIEW

Revamped workhorse tenor sax.

A favorite among band directors for decades, the 62 model saxophones (and their predecessor, the 61) have redefined the market by offering superior quality and durability at an affordable price.. Introduced in 1979, the YAS-62 and YTS-62 saxophones withstand the tests of time and competition and have been in a continual state of improvement since the launch of the YAS-61 in 1969. The Yamaha YTS-62III perpetuates this tradition of affordable excellence with new features and pricing.

New features include:
New 62 Style Neck - A slightly narrower bore provides a faster response and greater control. The 62 style neck allows a comfortable flow of air so that every player can attain a solid tonal core.

New Engraving - More elaborate with finer detail, the new design offers delicate beauty.

Improved Low B-C# connection - An improved mechanism from low B to C# ensures a proper seal for these notes which promotes a clear response throughout the low range of the instrument.

Backpack-style Case - Semi-hard case offers a contemporary look and greater ease of transport.

Excellent Professional Level Saxophone

Comments about Yamaha YTS-62III Professional Tenor Saxophone:

Excellent tone and intonation. Very easy to play out the box. It has a very bright, powerful sound. This is an excellent quality purchase and is truly a professional level saxophone. you could spend more, but you are paying a lot more for fancier keys and slightly better ergonomics. It is also a very beautiful horn, I have gotten a few comments about how nice looking it is in addition to the way it sounds :)

Comments about Yamaha YTS-62III Professional Tenor Saxophone:

This tenor sax has astounded me with its capabilities. The 62-III is clearly a professionally worked instrument; this is observable the moment that you play it. It plays in tune throughout the entire range. This includes the lows and the highest of its glorious altissimo. I purchased the silver model; while dispute exists as to the effect of a finish, the tone is bright and crystal clear. It is perfect for my jazz or rock-style gigs. The response is incredible; there is zero hesitation for notes to emerge at all levels. It speaks multiphonics well and is absolutely perfect in a large variety of settings depending on your desired setup for the instrument. The 62-III is my new favorite; I have not compared it to the custom Z tenor, but this model in itself is quite incredible. Highly recommended.

Best Tenor I have ever played

Comments about Yamaha YTS-62III Professional Tenor Saxophone:

I purchased this horn at an affiliated store in Jacksonville (Music & Arts). I have been playing the tenor for years and my old Yamaha accidentally got damaged on the bell and was uneconomical to repair. I tried out the Ventus Tenor which had a very nice sound, but was lacking in the key work. I tried out a used Chicago Jazz they had. I liked that horn a lot and the price was right, but something had me still searching. I asked about the Yamaha YTS 62iii series and they had a brand new one in the back. I asked him to pull it out to trial...... Review starts now--- I brought my Jody Jazz DV 7* with ring ligature, Rico Royal 2.5 reed as my trial setup as I was looking for a bright sound for comparison. Look - This horn is the standard all gold finish unit with white keys. Feel- I must say that when working the keys, nothing I have ever used has equaled the work of a Yamaha for me. I have friends who like other layouts, but Yamaha has always been my benchmark for quality. When you pick up any Yamaha, you get that feeling of familiarity as almost all instruments I have tried have felt similar. Sound - This horn just plain and simple rocks. Super free blowing, flawless lower and upper register. With the DV on the unit, I could blow through a room with no issues whatsoever. The 62 neck that comes with the instrument is very solid and is hand hammered as well as the bell which really balances out the sound. I honestly was very fortunate to find this new horn that required no setup from the shop. It played flawlessly. I am very particular with my horn selection and have found that the Yamaha brand as well as the Allora Paris/Chicago series are some of the best horns for my play style, but overall the Yamaha brand bar none sets the tone for me in terms of price/quality/sound. Accessories - The case is amazing, very professional case which also has a TON of room for storage and looks great. One note, if you are planning on using a pad saver, you may have to cut down the cork portion as the neck connection of the main horn is very close to the edge of the case. I use an HW pad saver and had to shave off .5 inch from the plug. The other accessories is a Yamaha stock mouthpiece (which plays great, but I prefer a larger tip opening), metal mouthpiece cap, strap, reed, instruction book with warranty information, and a small Yamaha care kit. Overall this is a great value and would be a lifetime investment as you would probably never need another tenor in your lifetime (Unless you obtained a case of the dreaded GAS Gear Acquisition Syndrome) as this horn is simply amazing in every single aspect. Yamaha has a great rep because they earned it. Buy with confidence, this is a true value for the price.

One of the finest instruments I've ever owned

Comments about Yamaha YTS-62III Professional Tenor Saxophone:

A year prior to writing this review, I tried four tenor saxophones from WWBW.com: Chicago Jazz, Selmer STS280 LaVoix II, Yamaha YTS-82ZII, and the Yamaha YTS-62III. All had decent reviews, so I thought I'd judge for myself. I first tried the Chicago Jazz tenor. One key on this horn was out of tune and the instrument was difficult to play. Fingering was a bit stiff, and it was difficult to get good clean sounds through all registers. Then WWBW shipped me the next three saxes to try side by side to save time. I tried each one in succession in the order listed above. It took me about a minute per instrument to make my selection, Yamaha's YTS-62III. It was hands down my favorite: very easy to play with excellent tone throughout the entire range. The low notes were especially easy to blow and maintain. The fingering is extremely fluid. I loved it. I decided to wait a year to write this review to see if I still felt confident about my choice. I have to say I am still totally impressed with the playability and sound of this instrument. I've played alto sax for many years, and so this is my first tenor. I'm glad I switched and delighted that I purchased this instrument.

BEST SAX I HAVE EVER PLAYED!

Comments about Yamaha YTS-62III Professional Tenor Saxophone:

I have purchased the Yamaha yts-62iiI with the vintage bronze and silver finish, the saxophone is beautiful and sounds better than it looks, it has a the widest dynamic range while keeping a superior sound out of any saxophone I have used. The instrument takes almost no effort to get a great sound out and has a very smooth and beautiful tone. The saxophone can play high and low registered notes very easy and with superior tone and has an excellent feel of the keys. The yts-62iii is by far one of the best horns out there and is easily worth the price

    love the 62s

Comments about Yamaha YTS-62III Professional Tenor Saxophone:

This horn has a beautiful sound. Alot of newer saxes tend to sound hollow in the lower end of the horn but this stays fat throughout the whole range. I have 62ii and I used to play on an original 62, The big difference I noticed was the key placement. On the newer horns the keys are little further from the tone holes, but the spring response is much more effective. In General they all just feel great under your fingers, and the spatula keys are designed perfectly. I must say that when i received my horn, it was very pitchy, but overtime it seems to have fixed itself. Great horn, I love the 62 series.

    Great Response

Comments about Yamaha YTS-62III Professional Tenor Saxophone:

For me, this horn responds. The key work feels perfect for me...upper stack, lower stack, palm keys, pinky keys, etc. A lot of thought was put into the design of the 62 series Tenors. The tone is great. It played great right out of the box. I've not owned any of the previous versions of the YTS 62s, so I can not compare older versions to this one, so my experience is a stand alone review of this Mark 3 version.
