About Yamaha

Woodwind & Brasswind’s relationship with Yamaha is primarily focused on band and orchestra instruments. We carry the full line of Yamaha trumpets, trombones, tubas, saxophones and flutes. Woodwind & Brasswind carries Yamaha concert percussion, marching percussion and orchestral percussion as well. We offer the latest in Yamaha keyboards and Yamaha guitars and basses too, but most of our business with Yamaha is in band and orchestra instruments.

One of the amazing things about the Yamaha Corporation is the breadth of products they address. We’re obviously not going to talk about motorcycles and personal watercraft here, but even within the music category, Yamaha’s reach is impressive. Yamaha saxophones are among the most prized in the world. The YAS-62 has now undergone its second revision and the reviews are rhapsodic. Yamaha alto saxophones are endorsed by some of the best musicians in the world, and the same is true of Yamaha tenor saxophones. Yamaha’s baritone saxophones are a professional favorite, and they also have a popular bari sax for intermediate applications like high school marching bands.

Yamaha trumpets and Yamaha trombones have similar reputations. The Xeno line of Yamaha trombones and trumpets is popular among professionals, but Yamaha isn’t just a pro shop. The YTR-2330 trumpet, which has undergone a few redesigns since its ancestor’s introduction, has been one of the most popular student trumpets for the past 50 years. A large percentage of active trombone players today began their journeys on some version of the Yamaha YSL-354 or YSL-200. All across Yamaha’s brass selection, which includes euphoniums, baritone horns and tubas, Yamaha band instruments are commonly rated as among the best within student, intermediate and professional market spaces.

Trumpets, trombones, tubas, euphoniums, baritone horns, French horns, the clarinet family, the saxophone family and the flute family. Have we forgotten anything? Ah, yes. Yamaha double reeds. Yamaha offers a selection of oboes, English horns and bassoons.

If we look across the all-Yamaha orchestra, we see the string section nicely equipped as well. We stock Yamaha violins, Yamaha violas and Yamaha cellos in several quality levels. They are also available in the Silent series, which allows you to practice under headphones. You can also plug its output into amplification systems or recording devices.

Does Yamaha make tympani? Yes, at several different levels. Do you carry them? Yes, all of them. What about really weird instruments like bass flute? Yes, in stock. You get the picture.

Yamaha’s reach is probably vaster than any other musical equipment manufacturer in the world. For those who know Yamaha as a prominent maker of motorcycles, and might think of them as a large conglomerate with music as an offshoot, understand that Yamaha started in music. They were established in the late 19th century as a maker of pianos and reed organs. Notice the three tuning forks in the logo.

Once you make your joyful sound, Yamaha can see to it that the whole audience hears it. Yamaha mixers, speakers, monitors, power amps and more are all part of Yamaha’s manufacturing. They excel within each category at all price points across their various lines. It would be no challenge to put together a world tour of almost any imaginable musical show using only Yamaha equipment. That is, if you could carry everything on motorcycles.
