After a frustrating bout with the redesigned Fibracells and cane reeds that wouldn't ever cooperate, I miraculously stumbled on BARI's plastic reed. The magic combo; I use a BARI tenor medium as the main reed on my alto sax and a BARI baritone soft as the main reed on my tenor sax. The projection and timbre are unstoppable, and the most amazing detail of it all is that I've been using the same reeds for 5 years, and still have instant setup for performances.
I got the soft and it gives me control of the range on my student tenor i have a brillhart 5 mouthpiece with the soft size and i can easily blow from low Bb and right through the altissomo range. makes my student sax sound like an entry level pro horn.
These make playing the saxophone so much easier than playing with wood reeds. I use a medium on my Selmer Tenor and they are worth the cost. These do not warp and do not chip easy like wood reeds. My Bari reeds have lasted for years. Easy to clean. If you struggle with wood reeds -try these. Your sound will be clear and you will hit every note. These reeds give me confidence when I perform solo pieces.
I've been playing for 50 years and tried these about ten years ago. I won't go back to cane any time soon. I play Blues, Classic Rock and Country and have used the same one, medium, for some time now. Sounds great on my Berg Larsen and my Buescher super 400 and not too bad with the Nickel LA sax, both tenors.
I was introduced to the Bari reed about 15 years ago by the repair man for the U.S. Naval Academy Band in Annapolis. I tried one and have been using nothing but the Bari reed these past 15 years.
