I've been playing this mouthpiece for about 10 years. It is quite flexible. Without the baffles, it gives a nice thick tone good for jazz or quieter music. With the baffles, it can compete with loud guitars, drums and keyboards. It is free blowing and plays altissimo notes quite easily. It is my go-to mouthpiece for most gigs. I can always rely on it to do what I need. I have lots of other mouthpieces but this one is the best all around one for me.
The Brilhart Level Aire is my favorite tenor mouthpiece. With the baffle in it's really bright and brawny but not harsh or 'metallic' sounding - perfect for blues, funk, or a contemporary jazz sound. Without the baffle, it blends in well with a big band sax section or a small jazz group. There's a distinct difference in the sound with/without the baffle. It's like having 2 mouthpieces in one, but either way it's a very responsive mouthpiece and makes my horn incredibly easy to blow from top to bottom, including altissimo. The other thing that really stands out to me is how much control I feel when playing this mouthpiece - much more than other metal pieces I've tried, including Jody Jazz, Guardala (old and newer models), SR, etc. You should try this mouthpiece - you'll probably be pleasantly surprised like I was.
This is an incredible mpc! I recently play-tested about 20 tenor mpcs from WWBW including top models like Link, Jody Jazz ESP, Van Doren Java/Jumbo Java/V16, etc. This mpc (and a Runyon metal mpc I tested) stood out as a total winner, far superior to the others I tested. The Brilhart Level Air is extremely responsive throughout the horn using a Rico Royal #3 reed and has a beautiful, powerful sound which can blend well with a sax section and will also project easily for solo work. The tone is darker without the removable baffle in, but either way the tone is very full and gorgeous. The sound I got with the other mpcs I tested was either too stuffy, had too much edge, was too bright or too thin, or they didn't play well down low. This is a truly great mpc that I highly recommend you try if you are not happy with your setup and you want a big, gorgeous sound. The price is also very good.
This is one fine sounding mouthpiece. I bought the tenor size 8 and I love it with a Plasticover 2 reed and the long baffle fitted. I wanted a rock n roll sound but this piece can do most styles easily. If you fancied a Runyon Quantum Metal this piece is the same internally - but with a much more comfortable beak. The sound is lush, commercial,LOUD and it's simply got that 'sax sound'. Gorgeous!
I got this baby in as a used piece and I am fairly impressed with it. With or without the spoiler, it is very playable. Altissimo is much easier to get out with it versus the Graftonite and Metallite Rico Royal pieces I have. The sound has a bit more edge to it as compared to my M7 Metallite and it suits me fine for a jazz band setup where power and control is needed. The spoilers fit in very nicely and the ligature is of decent quality. Well worth the price and I kind of wished I went with a 7, but the 6 is like a walk in the park as far as effort required. I can peel paint off of walls or serenade a seniorita with it!!
