Description
The professional's choice.

Buffet Crampon R13 Professional Bb Clarinet with Nickel Silver Keys
Developed in 1955 by Robert Carre, the Buffet R13 Bb Clarinets are the world's most popular and fit well with all types of musician. The R13 is a clarinet with unparalleled flexibility and a lively, responsive sound that cannot be found anywhere else. The bore features a polycylindrical design that creates better focus and adds more "ring" to the tone. Each R13 is complete with leather covered, wood case and necessary care accessories.

The Buffet Crampon R13 is made of stained grenadilla wood, has a hand burnished bore, and power forged keywork and posts that are pre-plated in copper. The clarinet also features an adjustable thumb rest, undercut tone holes, polycarbonate fiber reinforced tenons, and Gore-Tex pads. The result is simply the finest professional clarinet on the market, and is considered the reference standard by which all other clarinets must match.

Throughout its long lifetime Buffet Crampon has developed the most complete range of clarinets, while always taking musicians', conductors' and composers' requirements into consideration. Developed in 1955 under the guidance of Robert Carre, the now legendary R13 clarinet quickly became the choice of professional musicians. Musicians are charmed by its rich and focused sound, its power in all registers, and its flexibility. The R13 is suitable for all types of musician, symphony or chamber music, soloists, teachers, those in marching bands, students, and amateurs.

This clarinet is absolutely AMAZING! This clarinet has helped me advance further than I could have ever expected in the past 8 months. It has a very warm dark tone, great in the low range, and confident in the altissimo register. The craftsmanship on this clarinet lacks nothing. The shape of each key hugs every one of your fingers and makes playing effortless. I'm not going to need a new clarinet anytime soon and neither will you if you get the R13. I recommend this clarinet to any and every serious clarinet player.

The R-13 is by far the best clarinet I've ever played on. One of the very first times I performed on it, there was an immediate difference in my sound. The R-13 produces a beautiful sound with the help of a good mouthpiece, ligature, and reed (which is highly recommended). The R-13 has a good response to slow pieces and fast pieces. When the R-13 is played, it projects a rounded, full sound, and it produces a dark, yet charming sound that is pleasant to the ear. I encourage serious high school, college, and professional clarinetists to invest in this instrument.

"Pros and Cons"

This clarinet is very good, way ahead of its time some would say. I absolutely love playing it. It's by far the best clarinet I've played on in years; I even consider it higher in quality than my Leblanc Concerto. The only drawback I would say this instrument has is that you cannot take it outside. The grenadilla wood is very sensitive to cracking under ever-changing weather conditions/atmosphere temperatures. However, I would suggest to any student who intends on becoming a serious professional musician to take into very high consideration purchasing the R13, as long as they intend to stay indoors. =)

I've had this instrument for six months, and I love it! The silver keys last longer than nickel ones, and I think they feel smoother, too. It has an easy transition from the chalumeau to the clarion and on up through the altissimo. The tone is wonderfully rich and full, even in the lowest notes, and the highest notes don't thin as much as on some other clarinets I've used. The tuning is accurate and the keys simply flow. This instrument is the best I've ever played and I don't think many others could even begin to compare!

What a change from E11! No wonder Buffet is the legendary choice of professionals. Fluid response and colorful sound are just the two best features of this instrument. Silver keys look pretty sweet too - it really boosts my confidence.
