I got the 8DR, and this horn was everything I was hoping for and more! It's very free-blowing, allowing you to use your full lung capacity. And the tone is *amazing*! Before this horn, I had been playing on a Holton H179, which is a great horn itself. The 8DR however, gave me a exceptionally warmer tone, and more dynamic range. The horn looks very pretty too! My only complaint is that, for me, the Bb side on open notes plays really sharp, compared to the H179. The F side as well as the notes with other fingerings seem to be fine since there is extra tubing to tune it with, but with just the main tuning slide to tune T0 notes, I'm forced to lip it down or use some right hand tuning. This little bit of work is definitely worth the horn though!

In the past year, I purchased the nickel silver version of this horn. This is a spectacular playing horn. It takes away all the subtle restrictions you can encounter from smaller throated horn. It takes a lot of getting used to and can be slightly difficult to play at first due to the sheer openness of this instrument, but it is far worth it in the end. The tone is superb throughout the entire range of the instrument, and it really flourishes when you get into the upper harmonics. Tuning, also, is extremely stable. This horn is truly a work of art.

This instrument gives a very dark and bold sound. Out of all the horns I've tried, I've liked this one the best. I had the nickel/silver version. The horn is overall very beautiful. It has a wonderful tone. It's great for anyone stepping up to pro level. From what I've heard, it's the standard for pros across the country.
