I have been playing for over 20 years of & currently attend grad school at a local university, where I occasionally perform with the marching & pep bands. I did not wish to use my pro horn in the athletic environment. So I ordered the ETR 100 more out of curoisty than any thing, after all how good can a $100 trumpet be? I was pleasantly surprised when it was of equal quality to the "name" brand student trumpets that many of our undergrads use for marching.. The fit & finish is excellent the valve alignment good, & the case is quite nice. I would recommend up grading the mouthpiece after the beginner has some tunes under his or her belt, but this is a niggle as the provided MP is adequate. If care is taken this horn should see the average student through high school. I could easily play this horn in lower level concert ensembles with no noticeable intonation difficulties or tonal shortcomings. The advance player, planning on a music major or playing in a select concert or jazz group will want a more advanced instrument at some point, but this is more than adequate for most players. This would also make a excellent budget upgrade for older adults that may still be playing on "vintage" student models that lack adjustable slides and other modern features. Highly Recommended!

I bought this trumpet for my son. We have had nothing but trouble from day 1 with the valves. We have persisted with it because being from overseas to this store it is difficult to get it back without costing even more money. The sound is brilliant for a beginner trumpet but the valves keep sticking. Its been to the repairer 3 times already to try stopping this from happening and every week it has to be drowned in trumpet oil to keep the valves even sort of functioning. My advice is if your from overseas don't buy this trumpet. If you are from America it is worth the risk as the sound is lovely. Also if you get a faulty one like ours Send it back immediately don't keep persisting.

    ETUDE ETR-100

Comments about Etude ETR-100 Series Student Bb Trumpet:

Upon receiving after 1 year warrant the 2nd valve where it is cold soldered separated, had to be re-cold-soldered. Next Issue: The 3rd valve guide has worn out. Unlike other brands you can not go to a music store and purchase this item. All suppliers of this item say that it is an in house brand and after warranty they can not order the parts. Essentially the horn is now worthless. This was one of my students trumpets, I will let them use one of my Bach's until a replacement can be found. Would not recommend to parents as a first horn.

    passing the baton

Comments about Etude ETR-100 Series Student Bb Trumpet:

I bought this trumpet for my son as I tried to convinced him to join the jr. high beginning band. i didn't want to spend too much in case he didn't like it. now he's in his 2nd year & he's 1st trumpet in advanced band. He absolutely loves band & practices almost everyday by his own choice! Onto the horn review. I myself have played horns since my sons age so i'm quite familiar with what a good student horn should be like. as well as still having friends who play trumpet professionally. I would have to say after about 1-1/2 years of my son playing this horn, it has stood the test of durability & play-ability. The horn has been more than broken in. i have had ZERO issues with it. In fact, i just learned this week that the cork on the spit valve came off. this is quite normal wear & tear & i'm surprised t didn't happen sooner with the amount of use & spit my son produces combined! I just tested the valve action prior to writing this review. Let me tell you, it's flawless! the springs are not as soft as i prefer but for a student horn & price, i was expecting it to be rough by now. the action is close to pro horn quality minus the stiffer spring. as all kids do, he's dropped it a few times. i know because i had to bend back the dents on the bell. it was NOT easy & my thumbs are still a little sore. the metal is pretty solid! the playability is excellent! I heard him go through the beginnings of learning to play whole note to being able to play high C above the staff. So if you had any doubts if this horn will work well for your child's progression, the answer is yes & yes on more time! All of the other kids in class easily payed more than double & did not have the same quality horn. His teacher had a list of acceptable horns. this wasn't on it, the others were def more than $300 & his teacher liked it as well. he still has no clue how much i paid for it. I will leave you with this. as an engineer, PLEASE follow the "break in" instructions. Because of the horn price, there probably isn't a whole lot of budget left over to have someone to polish off all the micro-shavings left over from the production process. you can't see it, you can't feel it, but it's there. I was VERY anal about this break in process & highly believe this is why the valve action is above par. So be patient & diligent to do it as instructed & it will pay off for years to come!

Warm Sound, but weird smell and notices.

Comments about Etude ETR-100 Series Student Bb Trumpet:

I have been playing for around 2 years and was looking for an alternative to renting, for concert band. After a little bit of research, I found this horn and found it was rather good for its price and had decent reviews, so I ordered it. I just received the trumpet today, I have played it a bit and noticed it sounds a bit more flat than my rental trumpet, although to be fair it still needs to be broken in. But that isn't the reason I gave it four stars. The reason is that it has a very strange, chemical smell, which seems to have come from the low quality slide grease. As well on the back of the owner's manual, it says that the product has a notice of prop. 65, or that it contains a chemical(s) which is known in the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive problems (for adults). So other than that, I would rate it as a pretty good trumpet, with an amazingly light case which will be soooo much easier on my arm. For the price again, great horn.

    Valve Sticking can be fixed

    By

Comments about Etude ETR-100 Series Student Bb Trumpet:

Regarding all the people on this site, who have said the valves stick, there is a little known fact, that for sticky valves, trombone slide cream can completely fix the problem. I discovered this one day, when I forgot my valve oil and my valves were sticking, so I asked my friend (who is a trombonist) if I could use some slide oil (its the same thing right?) To my amazement, my sticking valve problem completely vanished and I didn't have to oil my trumpet valves for another two weeks after that. So overall trombone slide cream fixes all sticking problems, as it removes the metal residue and allows the valve to move freely, ever since then I carry around trumpet oil and some trombone slide cream in my case.

Comments about Etude ETR-100 Series Student Bb Trumpet:

I purchased this trumpet for the second time for my other grandson who is 10. the first was for the oldest. Both times have proven to be a great purchase. Not one was the price right, but the product was excellent. The customer service from Woodwind is like no other. I researched other products out there and I found myself going right back to Woodwind. Even my grandson's music teacher commented on other sites and products that she said were not up to par and she said she would definitely accept Paulie getting his trumpet from Woodwind. They stand behind their products. A+

    After 3 years, still wonderful

Comments about Etude ETR-100 Series Student Bb Trumpet:

I purchased this trumpet for my son three years ago when he was starting band in 5th grade. He will be in 8th grade this fall and after 3 full years of playing the trumpet it is still holding up beautifully. It sounds great, has been wonderful for him to learn on, and I am quite impressed it is still looking/sounding as great as it did on day one. My son is one that tends to be a bit careless with things and this trumpet certainly held up. I will probably purchase an intermediate trumpet for him once in high school, but this one is perfect for beginners. Durable and lasts! Highly recommend.
