Fibracell Synthetic Alto Saxophone ReedThey have brilliant overtones for a full, resonant tone, a quick response for better articulation, and excellent pitch stability and intonation, even for clarinet. Best of all, they have the same woody tone as cane but with better projection. Fibracell reeds even have the same weight and stiffness as cane (cane floats and so does Fibracell!) but they last up to 4 times longer with no unplayable reeds and aren't affected by heat or humidity. With their high strength and long-lasting durability, they're less likely to give out on you in the middle of a performance, too. What is Fibracell?Fibracell is a sophisticated composite of aerospace materials designed to exactly duplicate the way nature constructs the cane that goes into the very best cane reeds. Very stiff but sound-absorbing Kevlar fibers are suspended in a lightweight rosin using extremely exacting production standards. Each reed is precisely machined and trimmed for a consistently perfect shape, so you get the same reed time and time again.

I just got the three reeds I sent for from your company. I use a #10 Rovenr for the tenor and #8 Rovner for the alto and #8 Otto Link on the soprano. I found that the Alto and the Tenor play now with a darker sound. I use Platic coat Ricco's #2.5 on the alto and Tenor and #3 on the soprano. The big difference is that the sound that I have now isn't as crisp as the platic coats. I wanted to get and I do get a 50'60's sound (Also s sweet sound on the Alto and Soprano) on my instruments with the plastic coats. I am debating whether I should send the reeds back as they are really exspensive and don't play the same as or better than the Ricco's to me at least
I received this reed (alto sax) about a week ago and was astounded! I put it on my mouthpiece a Brillhart #3 and it played. Right out of the box, dry. No wetting, nothing, just put it on and play, plus it sounds great. I'm no pro just a retread, but I love it!
Since finding the Fibracell 5 years ago, I've virtually played nothing else. As a doubler instrument, you never have to worry about picking up your doubler in the middle of a concert and having a dry reed and no tone ever again. The sound is "virtually" identical to cane - so much so that only experienced players ask, and even they are fooled most of the time. Great reed!
I keep wondering when this reed is going to die! It just keeps sounding wonderful. It was an especially good reed for me in high altitude conditions (from 7,000 to 9,000 feet) when many of my other reeds from sea level were stiff as boards. While my cane reeds had completely changed characterizes in different altitudes, the fibracell stayed consistent. I came to think of my fibracell reed kind of like my little insurance policy. I highly recommend these reeds for players facing drastic atmospheric conditions (either playing at high altitudes, in dry conditions, or outdoor venues in general). As a wind doubler, I especially appreciate how I can rely on the fibracell reed to be ready to go without any tweaking or soaking. This is the best synthetic reed I've tried to date.
I had been a tenor player for about 15 years when I started playing alto. Determined to not have to fuss with cane reeds on another horn, I sought out an alto setup with a Fibracell reed. Not only do Fibracells play consistently from day to day and require no wetting or break-in, but I actually *prefer* the sound and response of Fibracell over cane reeds.
They're a tad brighter than cane reeds, so I think they work best on somewhat darker mpcs. I use a #4 Fibracell on my Vandoren V16 7M, and it sounds and feels great. I keep trying cane reeds occasionally just for giggles, but Fibracells give me a deeper, richer tone with good complexity of harmonics, and ease of projection.
All other synthetics I've tried have disappointed me. They all have annoying high partials in the sound that never seem to go away, even at quieter dynamic levels, and their sound lacked core or depth. Fibracells have a strong fundamental core sound with the harmonics there as subtle color.
I've had many players tell they thought I had one of the best alto sounds they'd ever heard and ask me about my equipment. When they hear I use a synthetic, they don't believe me. I've even had one person accuse me of lying. I had to show it to him on my mpc before he believed me.
