Fibracell Synthetic Alto Saxophone ReedThey have brilliant overtones for a full, resonant tone, a quick response for better articulation, and excellent pitch stability and intonation, even for clarinet. Best of all, they have the same woody tone as cane but with better projection. Fibracell reeds even have the same weight and stiffness as cane (cane floats and so does Fibracell!) but they last up to 4 times longer with no unplayable reeds and aren't affected by heat or humidity. With their high strength and long-lasting durability, they're less likely to give out on you in the middle of a performance, too. What is Fibracell?Fibracell is a sophisticated composite of aerospace materials designed to exactly duplicate the way nature constructs the cane that goes into the very best cane reeds. Very stiff but sound-absorbing Kevlar fibers are suspended in a lightweight rosin using extremely exacting production standards. Each reed is precisely machined and trimmed for a consistently perfect shape, so you get the same reed time and time again.

Bought one for my 6th grade grandson last spring. It is just now wearing out 8 months later! Now that is a great investment.
I keep wondering when this reed is going to die! It just keeps sounding wonderful. It was an especially good reed for me in high altitude conditions (from 7,000 to 9,000 feet) when many of my other reeds from sea level were stiff as boards. While my cane reeds had completely changed characterizes in different altitudes, the fibracell stayed consistent. I came to think of my fibracell reed kind of like my little insurance policy. I highly recommend these reeds for players facing drastic atmospheric conditions (either playing at high altitudes, in dry conditions, or outdoor venues in general). As a wind doubler, I especially appreciate how I can rely on the fibracell reed to be ready to go without any tweaking or soaking. This is the best synthetic reed I've tried to date.
I don't know what the very last review on here could mean since I use this reed on a C* mouthpiece and it works just perfect. He must have gotten a dud but I won't ever need to know what he meant because I've been using this reed for about 2 months now and it plays EXACTALY like it did on the first day. This reed is a great money saver if you?re starting to get sick of buying new packs of $20 reeds every week. Move over that hassle and experience what one of these reeds is truly capable of. Just imagine your best playing cane reed you've ever broken in now imagine that reed never dying or chipping. That's what a Fibracell could imitate if you just simply get a thick one of these(like say the 4 or maybe even 5) and then learn to use a small tool that's not too sharp, but sharp enough to shave away the reed to make it thinner until it feels right when you play it. I did this and it's worked great for me. But if you don't want to have to go through with that just get a size that's about 1/2 strength higher then what you use in cane. Trust me, if never want to have to buy reeds again, let this be the last reed you buy. You won't regret it!
I've experienced many of the benefits of Fibracell. Such as a nice tone and consistency, but not a long life. My teacher and I came to the conclusion that the curve of the tip of the reed doesn't match that of the mouthpiece (a C*). The result is a slow fraying of the sides after a few weeks. This isn't close to the life of my teacher's reeds. My friend also has the same problem with his Larry Teal. Maybe we're just unlucky (our teacher also has an LT and he has no problems), or maybe the reeds aren't cut quite right. This could explain the shorter life of the premiere series.
I think I'll just stick to my v12 reeds. This Reed might come as a close second. Its very responsive, but I find that throughout the entire practical range its not sturdy. It may just be the mouthpiece, but I thought I would put my input for others to see.
