I find that the Stonelined Cup mutes have the best overall cup mute sound available. The Dennis Wick's sound nice, but they don't really sound like a cup mute should in my opinion. Light, airy, round, with a slight dark or mellow quality (certainly never tinny, like the metal ones sound). It's the industry standard for a reason.
Although one of the most economical cup mutes, it's the one I go to for almost all jazz applications. Too bad they still paint them with that ugly color scheme.
Very durable 19 rivets construction. Sheet metal will never rust, the paint is tick. Recommended for beginner kids under 10 years, they will never destroy it. The price is cheap, so if it gets lost, it is not a pity. It is not China made no matter what you may think, it is all American.
I agree completely with the previous reviewer. This is what a cup mute is supposed to sound like! Foolishly, I bought a more expensive aluminum brand name cup before I got this one and found I actually liked the sound of this one better. Yeah, the gold old Humes and Berg stone-lined that everyone else had. Sometimes cheaper is better!
