Jody Jazz DV Tenor Saxophone MouthpieceIn the Jody Jazz DV Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece, nature, science and imagination are combined to create a revolutionary mouthpiece. The DV produces a bigger, fatter sound that is achieved effortlessly and better intonation and response. The main goal with this mouthpiece was to create the most efficient mouthpiece possible. That means that there are a huge amount of harmonics present in the sound and therefore the projection of the mouthpiece is huge. Another goal was to eliminate the annoying shrillness that is associated with loud bright mouthpieces. JodyJazz is using a new proprietary CNC facing technology that puts the perfect facing curve on the mouthpiece, which results in absolutely no dead spots in the vibration of the reed. In other words all notes in all ranges respond equally. It has a husky barrel-chested tone while being able to sing and soar over the top of any band. Sub toning and low notes are extremely easy and the altissimo is out of this world. Intonation is spot on. Be prepared to have possibly the most fun you ever have had on the saxophone.

This piece is without a doubt the best I have ever played. I have tried Dukoff's, Vandoren Jumbo Java's, a Vandoren T75 metal, and a Ponzol M2+ - none of them can come near the sound of this thing. This piece has an incredible amount of color to the sound, and is amazingly responsive. The more I play on it the better it gets. Up to this point I haven't been able to really find my voice on tenor, and this piece did it for me. I am still a little sick about the price, but if you're serious about your sound, this piece deserves a try.
This is the easiest to play, best sounding tenor mouthpiece I have ever played. I have tried at least a dozen metal mouthpieces over the past year to try to find my sound and something I was comfortable playing for several hours a day when necessary. After 2 hours on the JodyJazz DV, I permanently switched. The altissimo notes are effortless and the low notes come booming out on my Keilwerth SX90R. There is extreme consistency in sound and ease of play from low to high and the intonation is superb. It is very bright but without any shrillness or harshness. It even has a good sound for ballads. The harmonics are amazing. It is also easy to play very softly or it will let you cut through the guitars. If you try one, you will have a new favorite. After playin it for two weeks, I ordered an alto JodyJazz DV.
This is perhaps the best mouthpiece ever made. I did not purchase it from WWBW though. I got it right from the man himself. All I had to do was call up Mr. Espina and he sent me this as well as many other mouthpieces to try. The only thing special about this is that I got it before I was supposed to get it because it was like the day it came out and it should have taken 3 months. After trying all his mouthpieces I had no doubt I was sticking with the DV. Although all his other mouthpieces are awesome this has got to be the best one ever made. I know as a saxophone player you don't want to hear the guys that do like it, you want to here the cats that don't. But after playing this piece over the whole summer there was not one problem I could find. One of the coolest things is that I feel good playing it. I use #5 Vandoren v16 and a Buescher 400 which is not the best horn when playing in its old age but with the DV its sounds like it was young again and really tears it up. This mouthpiece is worth the money. IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved this piece, it's extremely free blowing, and I never have a problem being heard, it gives you a fat resonant sound, and altissimo pops out so easily.
The 7* has proven to work very well with my Selmer Mark VII Tenor Sax, using also the Vandoren Java v16 #3 reeds and a light ligature - a Rovner EV05 E-2M. I had used a Dukoff 6* that I bought back in the late 80s and before that, a Berg Larsen 105/1 or 105/0. But the Jody Jazz seems much more compatible with my Mark VII because the whole range of the range has that fullness I've sought. Recently, I was complimented on my sound and in particular, my higher notes. I also have a size 7 and a 10* as well. The 7 sounds good, but seems too close for my setup. The 10*, to my amazement, sounds really good too and I can play it with my #3 reeds as well, but maybe too open for me. I am planning on trying out an 8* because I found I'm able to use wider tip openings. What's nice is that I could stay with the 7*, but I choose to experiment a little bit more. Also, I have a Cannonball Global Big Bell tenor as well, but the Jody Jazz doesn't seem to be the best fit for that horn so far because I think the Cannonball might have a larger bore than my Selmer, and therefore may fare better with a larger chambered mouthpiece like an Otto Link.
