Jody Jazz DV Tenor Saxophone MouthpieceIn the Jody Jazz DV Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece, nature, science and imagination are combined to create a revolutionary mouthpiece. The DV produces a bigger, fatter sound that is achieved effortlessly and better intonation and response. The main goal with this mouthpiece was to create the most efficient mouthpiece possible. That means that there are a huge amount of harmonics present in the sound and therefore the projection of the mouthpiece is huge. Another goal was to eliminate the annoying shrillness that is associated with loud bright mouthpieces. JodyJazz is using a new proprietary CNC facing technology that puts the perfect facing curve on the mouthpiece, which results in absolutely no dead spots in the vibration of the reed. In other words all notes in all ranges respond equally. It has a husky barrel-chested tone while being able to sing and soar over the top of any band. Sub toning and low notes are extremely easy and the altissimo is out of this world. Intonation is spot on. Be prepared to have possibly the most fun you ever have had on the saxophone.

I had been playing on an old custom Dukoff D6 for years, and enjoyed only certain things about it. The projection was great, and the tone was wonderful. However, the low register was terrible, and at times, it seemed to "fight" me in order to get the sound out. Eventually, I tried the Jody Jazz DV 7* for tenor, and now I can't put it down. The mouthpiece plays so smoothly. I can hit a low Bb with the greatest ease, and the altissimo pops out effortlessly. It's capable of playing classical, jazz, smooth jazz, funk, you name it, without question. I've never experienced a mouthpiece with such a perfect design. I highly recommend this mouthpiece to anyone who is currently dissatisfied with their mouthpiece, or is looking for an all-around good piece on all levels. By the way, I am using Rico Jazz Select 2H Filed on a Selmer Mark VI 107,000 Tenor Sax.
I used to play Gardala mouthpieces but after one try on one of these moutphieces had me hooked. I can honestly say I am a fan of Jody Jazz accessories and Jody Espina (the founder). When allowed to try the DV on my tenor, I messed around on it for about 2 hours because I enjoyed the way I sounded!
The DV offers a phat controlled bright sound that doesn't sacrifice tone for power. This, or and Jody mouthpiece is worth the investment if you are willing to settle for the price.
I recently had the chance to try one the DV 7*. At first I was psyched about it, because I had heard that it's one of the top-of-the-line mouthpieces on the market. Anyways, I put it on my tenor (at the time is was a very nice Selmer Super Action 80 serie II) and gave 'er a go. The results were pretty mixed. I did really like the sound I got from it, it was nice and even and easy to play. I did not like the response I got in the altissimo register, however. It seemed very difficult to control (which is rare for me), as well as a little stuffy. Also, I felt that it wouldn't let me "push it" as hard as I would have liked to. Like it sort of "clammed up" on me. It is a great piece, but I'm gladly sticking with my Guardala.
Wow what a mouthpiece!!!! I have played several mouthpieces, Sugal, Selmer Metal 7*, Vandoren, Meyer,
Dukoff, but none have the sound or perfection that the Jody Jazz DV 7* had... My tone immediatley became full, rich and every note spoke through the Selmer Mark 6 that I play... I like it so much I am ordering one for my alto now!!!
The 7* has proven to work very well with my Selmer Mark VII Tenor Sax, using also the Vandoren Java v16 #3 reeds and a light ligature - a Rovner EV05 E-2M. I had used a Dukoff 6* that I bought back in the late 80s and before that, a Berg Larsen 105/1 or 105/0. But the Jody Jazz seems much more compatible with my Mark VII because the whole range of the range has that fullness I've sought. Recently, I was complimented on my sound and in particular, my higher notes. I also have a size 7 and a 10* as well. The 7 sounds good, but seems too close for my setup. The 10*, to my amazement, sounds really good too and I can play it with my #3 reeds as well, but maybe too open for me. I am planning on trying out an 8* because I found I'm able to use wider tip openings. What's nice is that I could stay with the 7*, but I choose to experiment a little bit more. Also, I have a Cannonball Global Big Bell tenor as well, but the Jody Jazz doesn't seem to be the best fit for that horn so far because I think the Cannonball might have a larger bore than my Selmer, and therefore may fare better with a larger chambered mouthpiece like an Otto Link.
