Music is so often the result of a convergence of disparate spirits and the accidental collision of personalities. So it is with Jody Jazz mouthpieces. In 1999, NYC Musician/Jazz Educator Jody Espina met legendary saxophonist and mouthpiece maker Santy Runyon. Runyon had been the teacher of Espina's boyhood teacher Junie Ferrell. Jody recognized Santy's unique energy, and Santy recognized Jody's spirit and thirst for knowledge, so Santy customized a mouthpiece to Jody's specifications and called it the Jody Jazz mouthpiece. Since then, Jody Jazz mouthpieces have gone on to be a feature in hundreds of music stores and on the web. Jody Jazz produces mouthpieces that offer the power and brightness that a contemporary working saxophonist needs but without sacrificing a big, full saxophone sound.
The JodyJazz DV NY produces a darker, less bright tone than the contemporary sound of the DV. The deep baffle/chamber design of the DV NY produce a beautiful Classic Jazz Tenor sound reminiscent of the masters of the 50's and 60's.
The Jody Jazz Tenor Sax mouthpiece is a "free blowing" easy to play mouthpiece that captures the full range of tonal qualities of the instrument. The low register of the saxophone is full, round and strong, while the upper register is warm sounding, and in tune.
