I have used Legere Studio Cut reeds for the past 6-years and just received my Legere Signature Series in the mail today.
I ordered a 2 1/4 for my tenor saxophone and it has a brighter more refined tone than the Studio Cut reed. Where the Studio Cut had a tendency to fight with my playing style, the Signature Series compliments my playing style and gives me more of the sound I am looking for.
Many people have said "its a good reed for students" however, this is not a student reed. Many professionals in orchestras and even jazz professionals use them exclusively, and now I know why.
This is a good reed from the start but you may want to go 1/4 to 1/2 stronger than what you'd usally use. I use studio cut 3 on my Tenor and Reg 3 on Sop. Alto, and Bari saxes. for the last 3yrs
I just returned playing sax again after a a few years away. I double on Alto and Tenor. I was having problems with the middle D being too sharp on my Tenor. With this reed it has helped with my intonation and brought my middle D back in line. My current setup is a Meyer hard rubber 6 large bore with a 2.5 Legere signature series on a YTS-475. Makes my sax really sing. I feel this reed is much better than a cane reed. The sound is terrific. I previously used a Bari reed after a an hour of practicing my chops were pretty well done, but after using the signature series reed my chops feel great after a couple of hours of playing. I dont think I will ever go back. They got it right. If you get one you wont be sorry.
I am a clarinet player who doubles on Tenor. I was always having issues with warped tenor reeds, even though I was using a quality reed holder. A fellow musician (whose primary instrument is sax) recommended I give these a try, and I love it! I get great response through the entire range, and it plays well immediately. When I'm switching horns mid-set I have no problem grabbing the sax and jumping right in.
I have been playing sax for over 65 years, and at a friend's recommendation I recently purchased a Legere Signature reed. I have tried most every reed out there, and have found the Legere to be the best for me--reliable, consistent, excellent tone, no 'break-in' required, long life. I wish it had been available in 1945 when I started! I do agree with other reviewers that the Legere tends to run on the soft side--I purchased the 2.75 strength, which is slightly too soft, and am now going to try the 3.25 strength.
