"good begginer metal mouthpiece"

I bought a Meyer 7J during the summer. I went from a plastic mouthpiece I had never heard of to this. I took me a while to get used to the way it blows but this mouthpiece is pretty good for jazz. The range of sound is incredible-going from nice airy fat sound to very bright sound. I would recommend this mouthpiece to anyone going from a plastic to a metal for the first time-for ease of play and price!

Before I got this mouthpiece I played on a Selmer C*. The first time I blew into my horn with this mouthpiece, I knew I had finally found the right mouthpiece after searching for the right one for endless years. I play on a saxophone.com model alto and it has a powerful and centered jazz tone. It takes a strong embouchure to get a sound out of most metal mouthpieces, but with this one all you have to do is find the correct reed strength to fit how you play. I have the 5 medium model and use V16 #3 reeds and I couldn't ask for anything more out of my sound.

i had been going back and forth on whether i would change to a metal mouthpiece or not all summer. i went to a jazz camp and the lead alto in the top band had one, and he sounded amazing, so i thought i wanted to switch. one of my buddies actually got this mouthpiece for christmas, and so obviously, i had to try it. I use fibercell synthetic reeds (i know i know, be a real musician and use cane) and i could tell an immediate difference when i started to play. The 6J was very easy to play, and took almost no time to get a good sound on. the mouthpiece offers a bright tone and is very flexible. The only con that i can see so far is that at first, i had a problem with keeping each note in tune. but after playing it for a while, i had no other complaints. Also, just a side note, i bought one of the used pieces, and it looks and plays just like new. as long as that doesnt gross you out, go for it and buy a used one and save a few bucks. I would highly recommend this mouthpiece to any musician looking to take their music to the next level.

I bought this mouthpiece about 3 years ago and I was switching from my plastic mouthpiece to a metal and a guy at the store told me he knew people who had used it. It took me a while to get use to playing on it because it took more air and it's smaller but once u get it down the sound is beautiful and I'm glad I got my hands on it.

I've had this piece for a while played on some Rso's studio jazz and some SR's but I still love this one, great price and great playability. Gives you a fat jazzy tone and great range. Alltisimo is easy on it and once you buy it you won't put it down.

"Great for Jazz"

This mouthpiece has a great overall tone. Can play airy and fat, however, if you want bright...This is the piece for you. My current set up for this mouthpiece is a Rovner metal ligature and Vandoren ZZ 4 reeds. Once you get this piece warmed up, it sounds sooooo good. With my setup, it puts out a rich and centered buzz that sounds almost like a tenor, great for jazz. It tends to go flat pretty easy in the high octave and forces the player to focus on pitch in the high register however once that is tended to, it sounds great and has a nice round sound in the high octave. This thing can really put out the sound, even though I only have the 5J facing, I can still overpower my entire jazz band. Works great if you?re a first alto part and you really want to cut through the band. It?s pretty easy to control the overall tone and has a great range. It?s very easy to play way down low and on the flip side play altissimo. I would NOT recommend this to anyone looking for a mouth piece to play in both concert band and jazz band. This Meyer Metal Jazz is just way too strong and bright for concert band. The Meyer Metal Jazz is NOT for the faint at heart...buyer beware.

"Great Sound..."

This is the first metal mouthpeice I have tried. I have been playing on a hard rubber meyer 9 for a few years. I ordered the Metal Meyere 7j, but it just wasn't what I was looking for. It had an almost identical sound to my hard rubber. I was looking for an edgy grit to my sound, something a little like Sonny Stitt. If your looking to add some edge to your sound this mouthpiece is not for you. However, for someone not looking for that, it has a smooth sound to it, it's easy to manage the low and high registers, and altissimo is easier but still a little bit of a challenge. I would recommend this mouthpeice over a hard rubber meyer but not by much.
