I have been playing trumpet for 22 years, and this is the first mouthpiece I have tried that has done anything better than my old Bach 2C (and I have tried quite a few). In fact, it does most everything better than my old Bach 2C.
Most of my playing is commercial, and lately I have been playing with a Reggae band that asks me to play in the high register frequently. The Parduba 5 James model gives me a much prettier, smoother tone in the high register, and it still has a good tone in the low register.
It played great from the first day I tried it, and it gets better every time I practice. After being in a slump and gaining no additional range for the last 8 years, this mouthpiece keeps giving me more with every week of practice.
I ended up going with a much smaller size than anything else I have ever tried because the smaller mouthpiece had a better sound than the larger ones I tried and showed no loss in the low register (even in pedal tones). Try one out; you'll be surprised what this weird looking thing can do.
I haven't played the trumpet in 50 years, since being in college. I recently bought one at a garage sale but had problems with high notes because the mouth piece was too big for me. I ordered the Parduba James Model Trumpet Mouthpiece and it has helped considerably. I can still do the low notes but also can reach the highs. The price from Woodwind/Brasswind was the best I could find on line--even better than eBay.
This makes a great lead mouthpiece. I have the 5.5 mod and it drastically increased my range,. I now can slot Double B (b above high c). I recommend the pieces ONLY for lead players.
Just received this mouthpiece, and could not wait to take it for a test drive. WOW...Nice clean attacks, good mid and pedal tone, and more easily accessible upper register with less effort and pressure. I am sure the endurance will be enhanced as well. Very pleased with this mouthpiece. May very well be the only mouthpiece one would need. I have been playing a Bach 7C which is also a good mp. Try one I think you will be pleased.
If you research the history of Parduba mouthpieces and also Harry James you will find this mouthpiece was a big part of his sound. I have played a lot of mouthpieces thru the years just for trial purposes to find out that what works best for a person has a lot to do with their lip and teeth structure and what sound you are looking for. I like Big Band swing and Jazz so this mouthpiece works great for me. I have dealt with the WWBW for years and they are honest and straight forward people to deal with. Please research Parduba and Harry James before you purchase this because not all people can play these. I had a Jerome Callet copy of this mouthpiece and it was not as good and 4 times the price.
