I have used the ProTec case for my Yanigasawa Alto Sax for about 6 years. It is a durable case and has a lot more storage area than a traditional sax case. When I am carrying a music stand, book of music, and a sax stand, this makes it easier because I can use the shoulder strap to carry my sax on my back. The case has held up extremely well and will no doubt last me for years to come.
It fits my Selmer Mark VI like a second skin. The case is ridged with what seems like a lot of crash protection... though I wouldn't stick it in the cargo hold of an airplane or anything. There's plenty of room, I can fit a pack of reeds and instrument stand in the outside pocket easily. This is infinitely better than the original case for my mkVI.
This case is very convenient. Enough to store a reed case, pens, cork grease, cleaning kits and anything else you can fit in the 2 zippered pockets on either side. Sorry no music stands or saxophone stands will fit. The product images online deceive the customer making it look like there's more pockets than there actually is. I wouldn't say storage on the case is that bad but still the product's photos and description are misleading. There is a shoulder strap and also a handle which makes transporting on one's body easy. You also don't have to worry about damage - it?s pretty sturdy. I would say it?s a good buy considering the price.
Protec really did a good job with this case. It is well designed, and protects the instrument very well. The storage is plentiful, however, you won't be able to fit a sax stand in it. You also have problems if both the pockets are full- the case will topple over when opened. I am able to fit reeds, a reed case, 2-3 mouthpieces, and other small accessories with no problem. I really love this case, and if you're going to buy it, look at the backpack strap that Protec makes, it is pretty cheap, and makes transporting the instrument much easier.
I was skeptical of this case as I've never used anything but a hard case. I've been playing for 34 years; professionally in the Marine Corps too. My alto is a 1929 vintage Conn and I'm very protective of it. This case cradles it perfectly with no wiggle room. There is not a lot of storage, but with creative organization I'm able to carry extra ligature, polishing cloth, swab, reeds, tuner and my sax stand. I would recommend this case to anyone.
