Filed jazz cut for tone, flexibility and response.
  • Huge sound with powerful projection
    Premium cane for longevity
    Outstanding control and projection

Rico Select Jazz Filed Tenor Saxophone Reeds
The Rico Select Jazz cut yields excellent projection and a clear, fat tone by virtue of its well-defined heart and longer vamp. Other characteristics of this reed are its great flexibility and fast response. This reed is available with or without a French file (please note, this item listing is for the FILED verson). The debate rages on in saxophone forums all across the web. Filed, or unfiled? The conventional wisdom is that the unfiled are a little less bright, but that they can be pushed to achieve the brightness they fail to display right out of the gate. As to whether that charactersitic is an attribute or a detriment, or as to whether that is even an accurate characterization is ultimately up to the individual player.

"I found my reed!!"

I've Purchased my share of reeds, trying to look for the right tone (Alexander Superial D.C., Vanduren Java, Rico Royal, LaVoz, Hemke, even Roberto's Winds) needless to say, I spent a fortune looking for the right reed. I think these reeds offer the highest quality sound and versatility, hands down. I purchased a box 4M and was first surprised by the range I was able to achieve. The quality cane and larger heart allowed me to play for an extended length of time while still maintaining a constant tone, that is to say other reeds may tend to soften up and dull out midway during a set, leaving you with that muffled dull sound. I am now having no problem easing the low register out during a ballad, achieving that fat robust sound, or getting a nice bright sound in any range. I also found it easier to get that "Coltrane" scream up in the altissimo. Although reeds are all preference, It would be a smart choice to try these out if your still looking for the right match. I found the reeds that I will use for a while, and I'm no longer buying boxes of reeds that I'm not happy with.

I have tried many types of reeds and found these to be very consistent. I now have my kids who are newer to the sax using them and they also have had good results with them.

I find these reeds to be really consistent and I use them exclusively on my tenor. If you haven't tried them give them a shot. I recommend them to all my students.

these reeds have empowered me to achieve a stronger, more aggressive sound when needed yet still maintain a mellow, sweet sound for ballads. I was introduced to these by my private teacher, and now use them exclusively on all of my horns. For me, you cannot beat these reeds.

I first had vandorn for my tenor and those were good but the high range notes just didn't sound the best so I dicieded to try these and when I opened the pack got set up and then played some notes and I was stuned these reeds are amazing I have never heared any other reed sound so smooth and jazzy you should defently buy these reeds.
