Rovner Dark Alto Saxophone Ligature and CapRovner LigaturesRovner Ligatures also greatly improve reed playability. Reeds that are totally unplayable on other ligatures will often perform well with the Rovner. The ability of the Rovner Ligature to extend reed life is unparalleled. More rigid ligatures actually hammer the cane fibers during vibration, eventually destroying the reed's tonal vibrancy. Not so with Rovner; most players find their reeds will play until the tips finally succumb to fatigue and fall apart!Selecting A Rovner LigatureDue to the design of the Rovner ligatures, they fit a wide range of mouthpieces. The above descriptions are general but are accurate for MOST mouthpieces. For more exact information regarding sizing, please follow the MORE INFO link above to read the sizing chart designed by Phil Rovner.

This mouthpiece has a very easy sound, and with it it is easy to have a great tone. Leather ligatures actually sounds alot better then most cheap 2 screw metal ligatures. I have a cheap one that came with my mouthpiece, an expensive gold BG ligature, a rico h ligature, and this one. This one sounds the best out of all of them too. I would reccomend this ligature.
I tend to stay away from leather ligatures in the first place, but after hearing many good reviews about this one I decided that I should just go ahead and try it. It was terrible. It muffles the sound like you would not believe. The reed cannot vibrate with this thing, giving you a bland tone with no substance whatsoever. Ligatures DO make a difference, so it's key that you pick the right one for you. I personally use a Rovner Platinum(Rovner's only all-metal lig, their only good lig I should say) because it gives me an amazing tone, and increases responsiveness. So go ahead and type "Rovner Platinum" in that search bar to see a good ligature.
People have the misconception that ligatures make a huge difference in sound, they don't. The 2 screw cheap ligatures that often come with cheap mouthpieces like the Yamaha 4C are the best/equal to the best. There are fancy ligatures out there but they don't do anything noticeable and are often used for covenience. The rovner dark is convenient because it fits many mouthpieces, has 1 screw that is on top and does not move around. The problem is that it cuts off vibrations giving you a dead sound. Trust me, just don't get it. I have one because I thought it would be worthwhile, it wasn't. For a clarinetist this might be different. Go with a rovner light (less leather) or do what me and MOST famous professionals use, a cheapy 2 screw :D
