Schilke S42L-JF Faddis Custom Bb Trumpet with Tuning BellThe Schilke S42L-JF Faddis was built to the specifications of legendary jazz artist Jon Faddis. The S42L-JF Faddis has a tuning bell feature that allows the tuning slide to be left all the way in or moved only a little to keep the bore relatively free of gaps that may cause a disturbance in the nodel pattern of the sound wave. The S42L Faddis also features a custom rounded tuning slide without a waterkey, plus an adjustable tuning bell soundpost.

I spent months looking for a trumpet that would be up to the quality i was looking for. After watching Faddis on you tube i just had to check out his horn. Well, it is amazing, I normally like a ML bore and more free blowing horn but with time i found out that a very small amount of air produces an amazing amount of sound from this horn. It is tightly slotted, odd as my other horn I picked was the Yamaha LA (besides my Bach 37 which still plays great but its a 1978)..i tried the Bach #7 but found it out of tune on several notes. This horn is not as open a blow and it takes some time to get used to but man oh man is it fast, responsive and never out of key on ANY notes....there is no spit valve anywhere and this is a big drawback to some people but I found it no biggy, just get a lot of grease. I can not explain it but this horn changed my life.....it allows me to hit at least 3 or 4 notes higher, i used to only be able ot hit G over C and now can go up 3 or 4 notes more. I use a Parduba 5 dual cup with it although I have the Faddis whopper XL Schilke mp it collapses my lip into the cup some times, tired a different larger one and it is okay but the Parduba 5 dual cup is the bomb. I am able to play for 3 or 4 hours on this horn where on others I could only play 2,5. I have a problem pushing into my lip to hard and have almost eliminated this between the Mouthpiece, the horns need to blow less hard due to Medium bore and finally the quality on this horn makes Bachs look like student models. IT is so thick I can not ding it....just a great great horn..if you do not like the lack of spit valve you might try the S42 but not sure it plays as well. I love this horn! It is the fastest valve action i have ever played...
