About the Student Bb Clarinet

Many musicians have started with the Allora AACL-336. Allora, our in-house brand, has been a reliable partner in getting quality instruments into the hands of young musicians. Students will find the AACL-336 easy to play and easy to understand. A durable ABS plastic resin body makes it perfect for marching or the concert stage.
The AACL-336 is available with an accessory package that includes a music stand, reeds and a tuner/metronome. This package also includes cleaning products and a Hal Leonard method book. We have had more than ten years of experience with Allora, and we stand behind their products with a three-year warranty. We also carry Etude, whose student clarinet is the ECL-100, a very well-received and reviewed instrument. It has beautiful tone and clarity, and all of the features a student needs to get started on the clarinet.
Other student clarinets comparable to Allora include Bundy and Prelude. Bundy is a name brand that has enjoyed an excellent reputation as a manufacturer of student-quality band instruments for decades. They remain a producer of quality clarinets, offering the BCL-300 in a student price range. Prelude is the student line of Conn-Selmer, one of the world’s most respected manufacturers of band instruments. The Prelude CL711 features a hard-rubber body, along with nickel-plated hardware and straight tone holes.
Another highly regarded producer of clarinets, Buffet-Crampon, has an instrument in the student category. For about half again what you would pay for an Allora or a Bundy, you can get a Buffet-Crampon Premium. Features on this model include silver-plated keys, an adjustable thumb rest, stainless steel springs and black nickel tenon rings. A less well-known but similarly priced and equipped manufacturer is Amati. Amati’s student offerings include the ACL-201 and the ACL-311. Amati is an instrument maker from the Czech Republic that has been in business for more than 75 years.
At the top of the range of student clarinets is the Yamaha YCL-255. Yamaha is one of the best names in band and orchestra instruments. Any student would be lucky to begin their studies on a YCL-255. It features an adjustable thumb-rest and nickel silver keys. Its durable ABS body and bell material are brushed to lend the appearance of wood.
Jupiter is another good-quality supplier of band instruments, and their student model is among the best we offer. The JCL700NA has a nickel silver bell ring, nickel silver keys and an adjustable thumb rest. Undercut tone holes allow better intonation and a comfortable C/G key riser makes for ease of play. The next model up in Jupiter’s line features a real grenadilla wood body that gives the player a full-bodied sound. The Jupiter JCL750NA also has metal tenons that protect against wear and ensure easy assembly.
Other brand options in this price point include the Backun Alpha. Many experienced clarinet players are surprised to find that Backun even has a student model, as they are best known for symphonic-quality instruments. The Backun Alpha is made from a synthetic material chosen for its tonal properties. It is available with nickel-plated or silver-plated keys.
