Comments about Vandoren Heckel Bassoon Reed:

This is the best reed I have ever used since my high school days. You can buy least expensive ones. But if you buy good they last. In fact, I have just picked up bassoon again and started with the reed I used in high school and it still works pretty well for being 49 years old and in storage for 40.

The reed most teachers recommended

Comments about Vandoren Heckel Bassoon Reed:

In 2014, I bought 6 Vandoren Heckle Bassoon Reeds from Woodwind & Brasswind for my 14 yo son. He is a medium-level middle school bassoon player. At his level, his teachers recommended to switch to premium reeds like Vandoren. Out of these 6 reeds, 4 worked great just out of the box. 2 of them did not work well at all. I bet they need ajustment, which neither my son nor I know how to do it. That is why I rated it 4 stars, not 5 stars. My son goes through 1-2 reeds per month. We tried quite a few brands of them from several venders. So far, Vandoren is the best!

Pricey but good

Comments about Vandoren Heckel Bassoon Reed:

I'm usually a Chartier buyer but thought I'd spend a few more dollars and see if there were a quality difference. It's a fine reed, well made, and I have few hours of playing on it, doesn't get soggy soft. Open F and surrounding midrange are a little squirrelly right now, but seem to be settling down. I'm finding it has excellent response in lower register and I reserve it for my 2nd bsn playing almost exclusively. High register is a bit too quiet for me. Nice, but I'll stick to Chartier.
