Comments about Vandoren Jumbo Java Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

Good sound production! it is possible to play very loud, I love this mouthpiece. On the bottom registers it sounds similar to a tenor saxophone, very big sound on low register.

Comments about Vandoren Jumbo Java Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

Arrived on my birthday (11/13/15) and is the b-day present I've ever got. Blows easy ( I got the .75 tip), intonation terrific, fat upper register, even up to alt. "A", low register very accessible and even fatter, response terrific, projects well. I would not, however, describe it as "very, very bright" as advertised...which is fine with me.

The best Mouthpiece I've ever bought.

Comments about Vandoren Jumbo Java Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I bought the Jumbo Java A55 a few weeks ago and have played it enough to give it a review...it's the best MP I've ever used. It plays just as well as any $400 metal mouthpiece that you will find, only in many ways I think it's actually better than metal MP. The chamber and facing of this MP are very well balanced, resulting in LOADS of edge/projection but it's very free blowing, but when it resonates it's not "rough" like lots of metal MPs can be. I would put this MP in the league of a metal Berg Larsen MP, only the difference being with this MP being ebonite, it's much more "comfortable" to play. The great thing about this MP is that, although it's perfect for "screaming" on the Sax (Altissimo notes pop out like nothing) if you've developed a good tone, you can "tone" down and use it for ballads, swing, etc.. I usually use a 2.5 medium reed on Alto Sax, but I got better results with a 2.0 medium Java Green Reed. It's apparent that this MP wasn't designed with beginners in mind, but rather if you have a couple years of playing under your belt and you enjoy playing blues, rock, solo sections, playing out in the public, etc., then I would consider this you're go-to MP for many years to come. I'm definately getting the T95 model for my Tenor Sax...these are going to become my permanent MPs of choice; I've put all other MPs away :)

Loud and Rich Sound

Comments about Vandoren Jumbo Java Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I bought the Jumbo Java A45 about two to three years ago and it is by far the best mouthpiece I've ever had. It is as close to a metal mouthpiece as you can get without buying a metal mouthpiece, it has a large barrel with a open tip for a loud rich sound, then pairing it with Vandoren's ZZ Series Reeds (3)which are extremely flexible has given me a very smooth and rich sound. I highly recommend this product.

Comments about Vandoren Jumbo Java Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

This mouthpiece packs a punch! I recently bought the A35 this for Jazz Band and I am very impressed. However, if this your first Jazz mouthpiece be prepared to spend a little bit getting use to it. Because this mouthpiece is open, you are going to tend to squeak and are going to need to adjust you embouchure. But don't get me wrong, this is an excellent mouthpiece that any saxophonist should enjoy.

sings like a bird

Comments about Vandoren Jumbo Java Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I used to play on a hand made guardala king for alto and it was a great sound but I just couldn't handle the metal vibration on my teeth anymore and a mouthpiece patch darkened the sounds so I heard about this moutpiece from saxophonist Mike Phillips and its exactly as he said. it gives off a metal sound with the comfort of a hard rubber. so I've been playing on it for a year in a hlf now and i still love it. theres no other mouthpiece out there that compares to it. I used Vandoren Java for a while and it made it sing like a bird but when I switched to the Java filed reeds it sang like a Phoenix lol

Good product if you know what you want!

Comments about Vandoren Jumbo Java Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I own the A75, and it's perfect for rock/fusion settings, as well as a solo saxophone for jazz band. It's a bit too easy blowing though for it to be an everyday mouthpiece for jazz band, as it doesn't blend with the section well. The price for this quality in a hard rubber mouthpiece is great, especially when you find out how high the prices for metal mouthpieces of this caliber are. I also appreciate that vandoren's consistency in this mouthpiece on tenor (T75) is very good. My only problem with that is that there's no jumbo java for bari or soprano, you have to get a v5 or something else. Bottom line, i'm satisfied, and it's been reliable for many years for me. I'm now a grad teaching assistant at Oklahoma State.

one wicked mouthpiece

Comments about Vandoren Jumbo Java Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I just test drove the A35. Blew every $400 mouthpiece I've owned and played out the door. If you want a mouthpiece that can be extremely sensitive and then knock the highlights out of the guitar players hair with volume this is the one. The sound and intonation quality did not vary at any dynamic level. The sound is bright, rich and full of overtones. Definitely a soloist mouthpiece, I wouldn't personally use it in a section of saxes because it will not fit in with the classic New York Meyer crew. This is a modern rich sounding mouthpiece in hard rubber that will have the guys playing metal mouthpieces looking at you asking how is that possible. From the low Bb through the altissimo it did not miss a beat and I only played on it for my first time. It will be exciting to see what its capable of as I explore the mouthpieces versatility. For a hundred dollars every sax player looking for that edge in a modern saxophone world should just give it a try.

Very good, very loud

Comments about Vandoren Jumbo Java Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I have the A45 model. It makes the saxophone sound like you are on a microphone with an amplifier on...no kidding. It takes some practice to keep it under control, as any small change on embouchure or air support is easily noticeable with this piece. The sound is bright, but it does have a lot of body and doesn't sound "thin". Excellent for solo work, not so good for section work (unless you're the lead) because it is loud and bright.

Worth it!

Comments about Vandoren Jumbo Java Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I switched from metal Link 7* to the A35 on my alto 10 years ago and have played it since. Man, this is one of the best HR's out there and the price is right too. Of course, there are some vintage ones you can't beat (Selmer Soloist, old Meyer etc), but for this price it's one of the best. Though I would not recommend this piece for beginners as it may be hard to control the tone- it's huge. As for me- I love it!!!
