This mouthpiece is probably the best thing that ever happened to me.(as far as music goes) I play on a Saxophone.com tenor sax model and it roars when the V16 is on it along V16 #3 reeds. I got the T7 which I was surprised to see, was the lowest facing available. But the rich, solid tone this mouthpiece provides is an amazing jazz tone. By talking into the instrument while playing, I can now make a mean, nasty, powerful tone like that raspy sound of Clarence Clemmons. I can listen to the classical jazz stuff and create a prefect match in sound compared to John Coltrane and several other legends. (TheyÆre not lying when they say, "This mouthpiece is designed to imitate the sound response of jazz mouthpieces from the 50's.") All I can say is that if you want an amazing mouthpiece that will allow you to create the prefect TRUE JAZZ sound, choose Vandoren V16.You won't regret it.

In my continual search for that dark but vibrant jazz tenor sax mouthpiece I tried this V16 (T7). It was very similar to my custom adjusted Meyer 7M. (I also have a Berg Larson 105 1 SMS for an edgy sound that cuts through better.) This Vandoren V16 has a generic jazz sound that blends well (not a unique edgy sound) and responds well at all dynamics and articulations. It works, but it was not that special, vibrant, dark, slightly edgy sound I was hoping for.

Comments about Vandoren V16 Hard Rubber Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I have now had my V16 T9 for 9 months. When I first got it I had not played a tenor sax for about 9 years. So my results were not consistent. Now that I've had for some time I find the mouthpiece to be very consistent. I am getting a great sound out of this piece. In fact I am getting what I call a classic tenor sound; a full bodied tone with just the right amount of edge. I think it sounds great and its easy to produce.

I find I get the best result with Vandoren ZZ Tenor Sax Reeds. They seem to have been made for this mouthpiece.

I am glad I bought this piece. It is a great mouthpiece for the money.

Comments about Vandoren V16 Hard Rubber Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

I bought the Vandoren V16 T7 and I think it's a great mouthpiece for the money. I've been playing on a jodyjazz hr* and wanted to try this mouthpiece. In comparison to the jodyjazz the Vandoren V16 is a bit brighter with less edge. It does offer a rich sound. It sounds great when you sub tone, and when you honk a low Bb it has a deep full sound with a bit of presence.

The jodyjazz is a bit darker, with more edge and punch. It also has a great sound when you sub tone. When you honk a low Bb it also has a deep full sound, but with less presence. This piece sounds warmer, and it has a little more bite to the sound.

The altissimo register comes out easy on both mouthpieces; no problems there.

Both mouthpieces were in good condition when I got them. On the Vandoren piece I noticed that the side rails were thin at the beginning, then they got thicker and flared off to each side, with a thicker tip rail to match the flared off side rails.

On the jodyjazz hr* the side rails are a bit thinner then the Vandoren and are a consistent thickness on the hole piece. The tip rail is also thinner. I always look for a thin tip rail, when I try a mouthpiece. A thin tip rail makes a mouthpiece respond better, which is extremely important.

In conclusion both pieces sound and play great, but in my opinion the jodyjazz is a better quality piece, and suits my playing needs better.

Comments about Vandoren V16 Hard Rubber Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

The VanDoren V16 T6 is a little easier to play than the V16 T7 as the opening is 2.5 mm instead of 2.7 mm. A reed of a 2 or a 2.5 strength will allow you to honk for a while without getting too tired, especially if the reed has been used for a while. The tone is medium bright.

I also strongly recommend the V5 T35 with an opening of 2.3 mm which requires less lip work and still is loud enough for many purposes, with a medium bright tone.

If you want a shrill, piercing tone, these are not you mouthpieces. For that, I recommend the Jumbo Java series or the less shrill Java series.

Additionally, I strongly recommend that you use a sound deflector that you clip on the bell and that you can build yourself for a few cents or buy for, I think, 35 dollars. It took me years to learn this and it was a revolution to be able to hear the sax the way others hear it and to enjoy the full sound of the mouthpiece and to evaluate it. Alternatively, you need to play towards a wall and that's still not that good.

I have a preference for VanDoren mouthpieces as their product information is very good and they're not too expensive.

Comments about Vandoren V16 Hard Rubber Tenor Saxophone Mouthpiece:

When I got this mouthpiece I had not played for around 9 years, so I had a long way to go. The first thing I noticed about the V16 T9 mouthpiece was that it didn't offer a lot of resistance. In only three weeks or so I began to get that classic tenor sax sound I was used to hearing. This mouthpiece is very consistent once you find the brand and strength of reed you need. Like I said, I was coming off a 9 year hiatus, so it took some time to find my groove. I am absolutely loving this mouthpiece.

Kirk Whalum plays a V16 T8 on a Keilwerth tenor. He has one of the finest tenor sounds I have ever heard. I recently purchased the Allora Paris Series Tenor at the same time I got the V16. I'm getting great results from both.

This is a great mouthpiece. A friend in jazz band gave it to me but it it's too bright for my taste on tenor. I stick to my ny link on tenor. I love the piece on soprano! Great sound! I plan on trying it out on my alto I'm buying from a friend!
