Best Bari Sax EVER

Comments about Yamaha YBS-62 Professional Baritone Saxophone:

I absolutely love this Bari sax. It can play every style I need and has a wide enough range of sound to sound great in the nationally recognized jazz band at Agoura High School I'm in. It also is great for soloing and for ballads as well as ensemble. I completely recommend this bari to everyone in the market for one. Trust me, it is worth the money!

Comments about Yamaha YBS-62 Professional Baritone Saxophone:

I played one of these in High School Concert Band. Sounded superb. Unfortunately I am in middle school and I can't get a nice horn like this, Yet! I plan on buying the Yamaha 5C Bari mouthpiece for a vintage Armstrong. I have a very Large budget though. So if anybody could recommend a 10 -60 dollar good mouthpiece I would appreciate it greatly. Again Great horn for anyone professional. Even so I was 13 when I played one of these in CB and I could jazz it up like crazy!

Comments about Yamaha YBS-62 Professional Baritone Saxophone:

This is by far the best saxophone I have ever played. Throughout my career I have never played anything as phenominal as this sax. The low and high notes come out smooth and easy. This is a top notch saxophone and I highly recomend it.

Best Bari by far

Comments about Yamaha YBS-62 Professional Baritone Saxophone:

I have 42 years of sax playing, mostly tenor and bari. I first grabbed a YBS-62 in the early 80's and have not found a better feeling or sounding horn. The Selmers are great, but this horn with my Berg 130/1 metal mpc and a #5 Rico Royal plasticover reed will give the punch to play big band and funk. It also gives flexibility of sound for other settings with great intonation to boot. Money well spent and invested in this horn.

A must buy for any bari sax player!

Comments about Yamaha YBS-62 Professional Baritone Saxophone:

I've been playing saxophone for a good while now, but I just recently decided to take the plunge and invest in a Bari sax. I'm a student at Marshall University majoring in Jazz Studies so I knew I had to check out something that could really blow through the band when it came time for the BariÆs few solos. I tried numerous saxophones from different brands such as Selmer, Yanagisawa, Keilwerth and Jupiter, but none of them had the tone or key work as the 62. The sound when played through my Link was clean and crisp all the way from the high F# key down to the low A. And let me tell you, that thing can bark! The key work is simple and easy to use with just the right amount of give. I would recommend this sax to anyone who wants to be a serious Bari player.

10 years old, still the best bari I've played

Comments about Yamaha YBS-62 Professional Baritone Saxophone:

I bought this model 10 years ago and it still outplays any selmer I have tried (thanks to a little tweaking by my fantastic repair man). The metal is softer than a selmer, and I have have a few dents repaired but the price and light weight make it a better choice for me. I gig on it more than any other horn and have never regretted the (large) purchase.

A Great Horn

Comments about Yamaha YBS-62 Professional Baritone Saxophone:

I bought my 62 from WWBW about ten years ago and it's still playing great. Like most saxes, the metal is rather soft, so you must be careful, but the action on this horn is exceptional and the sound is very even.

I want one... real bad

Comments about Yamaha YBS-62 Professional Baritone Saxophone:

I currently play the old model YBS-61 which they don't make anymore and I'm currently waiting to buy one of these bad mamajammas. As a pro Bari player for over 7 years; I must highly recommend this horn, it has everything one could want in a bari. I've played many of the 62's since my teacher is endorsed by Yamaha and has a few of them, not to mention trying out every 62 I can get my hands on. I must say that the level of craftsmanship is superb, every horn is different of course but the YBS-62 is the most consistent bari I've ever played. The key work is excellent, very comfortable even to people with large hands. Intonation is outstanding all over the horn, high register speaks wonderfully, and the low register is very smooth yet can bark up a storm when you need to. Great for every style of music from Bach to Bop. This thing has so much beef its ridiculous! But you can whisper Mulligan style with ease if the tune calls for it.

One word...Amazing!

Comments about Yamaha YBS-62 Professional Baritone Saxophone:

I finally got my hands on the 62 and I fell in love with it. This horn is it. It has a huge sound and good mechanics. I am a little disappointed with the smaller keywork, I have been playing a 30's Conn but that had been overhauled and buffed to thin before I got my hands on it. I've played some awesome low A Mk VI's, but they belong to the university and I wouldn't be able to find a decent one for what was paid for the Yamaha. Small keywork aside, this horn blows my mind every time I pick it up. The 52 is a nice horn as well, but this 62 I just got my hands on is incredible.

This horn makes me sound great even when I don't deserve it.

Comments about Yamaha YBS-62 Professional Baritone Saxophone:

I was able to buy this horn last summer, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me. It was packed well and delivered safely. I LOVE MY BARITONEI!!! Everyone raves about the sound, even if I hit some clams. Haven't gigged with it yet, due to personal issues, but hope to this year. I played the 52 at Portland State and loved it, and the 62 is much better. I still need work on playing the far upper register, but that's my technical challenge. This horn will stand up and dance if you let it. It has a hauntingly beautiful singing tone in the upper ranges, wonderful tone on the lowest note (low A) and great sax sound in the middle ranges. I love this horn.
