Drum Ceremony is the introductory movement of An American Te Deum for mixed chorus, baritone solo, and orchestra or wind ensemble. The work was commissioned to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the founding of Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on December 5, 1976. Drum Ceremony derives from Native American drumming, particularly that used in war ceremonies.
