Eighteen tube-generated Class A/B watts for serious sustain even at low volume. A pair of EL84s and a 5U4 rectifier tube are the guts of this hi-gain, channel-switching combo. From the darker tones of a vintage Plexi to the compressed sweetness of an AC30, this amp covers all the tonal bases.

I also own the Superdrive 80 MK II Head which I also love. I bought the 18 because i wanted a low wattage combo amp for smaller gigs. What a surprise...The Superdrive 18 is extremely versatile with plenty of volume on tap yet it is very light and rugged. The clean tones ate wonderful and inspiring. The grind is very much like my old Marshall plexi except you have a master volume so you can get those HUGE tones at bedroom volumes if you want. The overdrive channel is very complex sounding (almost a 3d kind of sound.) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
If you're a strict jazzer, this amp probably isn't for you, but for everybody else, this sucker might just be what you're looking for. The cleans are good, with reasonable headroom, and the bright switch kicks it up into Voxy territory. To me the cleans seem somehow a little "thicker" than your standard Fender clean sound, but they still have good sparkle and work beautifully in a mix. The drive channel also delivers what I'm looking for. Everything from a little hair to AC/DC crunch and beyond. It doesn't quite get into full-blown Mesa Dual Rec distortion, but for classic rock and hard rock you should find everything you need. Even though this is "only" an 18 watt amp, I wouldn't think of it as a bedroom amp. It's loud, and like most amps it sounds best when turned up a bit. That said, I do use it as a practice amp at home occasionally, but it sounds a bit compressed to my ears at "bedroom" SPL's. When I received it, one of the preamp tubes was microphonic. But a quick call to the super-friendly and helpful guys at Budda helped me diagnose the problem and replace the funky tube. (ALWAYS keep spare tubes on hand, no matter what brand of amp you have.) This isn't a cheap amp by any means, especially given its relatively low power rating, and some less sophisticated players might turn up their noses at the circuit board inside instead of point to point wiring. But those circuit boards deliver consistent amp-to-amp performance, and guarantee that every Budda will sound as good as the designers intended. I like it, and I think you will too.
