Can go from pedal tones to double C's. I love it and the tone is so open and free absolutely perfect.
No horn will allow you to play well without practice, but indeed, this horn will allow the best effort you have, to come out. It is all about finding a horn that doesn't fight your every effort to execute your musical manuevers. With a proper mouthpiece ( I play the Shilke 14A4a) and a great horn like this, the only limitation you have left in front of you is yourself. What are you willing to do to become better? Will you put in the time? Rest assured, the Vintage One will not be responsible for limiting you. I have a King 2220SP Cornet that I have given a Precision valve alignment to, and it still does not respond near as well as the Vintage One does right out of the box. In fact, not even close. This alone should tell you plenty. There are a number of "Super Horns" out there that you can spend 2 to 3 times more for without much improvement in quality. So unless you're itching to spend way too much, park it right here on C.G. Conn's Vintage One. Truly the smartest move you can make.
I have played Trumpet for 50+ years and played lots of trumpets. I love the response and the short valve stems on The Conn 1B Vintage. I used to play on the Bach Strad but I like the sound of the Conn Vintage better.
Having grown up with a Conn Director Cornet, I vowed never to own a Conn. I dreamed of one day owning a Bach Strad. I tried several different horns Bach Strad, King, Yamaha Xeno, and then I played the Vintage One. Wow! I couldn't believe the sound I was getting out of this horn; warm in the lows, rich in the highs. I couldn't believe my ears. I fell in love with this horn from the first time I played it. If I had not played it I would not have been a believer. I am a believer in the quality of the Vintage One. I preferred the Rose Brass Bell (BRSP). If you are looking for a pro-level horn or a step up from a student horn, look no further. This is the horn for you!
Was used to be playing on a B&S Challenger 3137. Tried everything from Strads to Xenos to Schilkes and nothing plays quite like the Vintage Ones. They are constructed well with a tilted 1st valve slide that allows one with small hands to hold the horn properly. The valves are broad and have perfect response. I play on the silver plated yellow brass and it greatly enhances my sound and projects like nothing else I've ever played on. It's extremely free blowing, especially because I'm used to playing my Challenger, but everyone I play with notices the difference in my sound and range. It's a great horn that?s extremely fun to play. I like the reverse tuning slide.
