"Condenser-like" performance in a Dynamic mic design.
General Product Description
The new N/D767a presents optimal performance in a live sound environment. The 767a vocal microphone utilizes EV's new VOB(TM) (vocally optimized bass) technology to provide the performer with reduced low-end distortion and eliminates the muddiness found in other microphones. Combined with EV's industry first neodymium based magnet structure, the new N/D767a offers the power and clarity to "cut through the mix."Operation
The low frequency response of the N/D767a microphone varies with the distance from the sound source. Known as "proximity effect," maximum bass response is produced in "close-up" use with the microphone 1/4 inch from the sound source. Normal bass response is experienced with working distances greater than 24 inches. Working close to the microphone will produce a more robust sound. Close up positioning of the microphone will also reduce the potential for feedback from the sound reinforcement system. When close-talked, the bass-boost provides an increase in overall microphone output level. The mixer gain may be proportionately reduced, resulting in a reduction of the system's sensitivity to feedback caused by sound entering the microphone from the loudspeakers.Microphone Use and Placement
Please note that micing techniques are a matter of personal preference. These are merely guidelines to assist in the placement of the microphone to gain optimal performance.Vocals:
Zero to six inches from the windscreen, and on axis with the microphone.Spoken Word:

This is the best mic I have ever owned! I did a side-by-side comparison with every micin the store and the 767 is the clearest, brightest, most intelligble mic made. Others mistakenly call warmth an asset, actually warmth is "muddiness". If you can really sing what you want is clarity not mud. BUT THIS MIC and hone your craft... sing!
What I think is very misunderstood about this microphone is that it is designed to have lots of proximity effect and be used in live situations. I doubt this mic would sound very good in a studio, but that is not its function. When I sing backup getting slightly off axis or just a few inches away lets me blend nicely and when I am lead I can just get right on it and the presence is there, I can cut through. So in my opinion its fantastic on a loud stage but I use it in acoustic settings and it sounds good too. Also seems to match up well with my voice where the SM58 fell short. I have been using it for about a year now. By the way, its one of the highest gain-before-feedback mics out there, again a good trait for live use but really a detriment in the studio, I would imagine it to be too colored because of all the gain.
