When you are searching for the perfect mute for your trumpet, trombone, tuba, or other instrument, trust Humes & Berg. Humes & Berg mutes provide easy blowing, accurate intonation, and innovative designs.
Humes & Berg was founded in 1935 and began to produce mutes and some other musical accessories. Before the company came to be, Willie Berg was a struggling musician in Chicago. As a part-time job, Berg would travel to various jazz clubs and sell reeds, cymbals, valve oil, and other items to the musicians. Before long, Berg had gained a reputation and became friends with such musical greats as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and The Dorsey Brothers. The most influential musician in Berg’s life was Glen Miller. Miller encouraged Berg to develop and sell mutes for the instruments. Soon, Willie Berg invented the Stonelined Mutes producing a product that far exceeded Miller’s expectations.
A family company, Humes & Berg has been passed down through the generations and the family takes great pride in the quality that they manufacture. Some of the popular mutes are the Humes & Berg 102 Trumpet Cup Mute which has superior intonation. The Humes & Berg 208 Tuba Mute is a symphonic, all aluminum mute with incredible accuracy. For the trombone player, consider the 164 Trombone Trixie Plunger Mute which is colorful as well as effective. All of the Stonelined Mutes feature a special compound which lines the mutes which is largely responsible for their exceptional quality.
Humes & Berg also produces some instrument cases including the Tuxedo Series Tuba Gig Bag which is an inexpensive, yet high quality tote. Beyond their original mutes, the company has a long tradition of offering unique mutes for numerous instruments as well as other instrument accessories and cases.
