best 6-string for the money, period

Comments about Ibanez SR506 Soundgear 6-String:

I've played bass for 36 years and have run the gamut on instruments. I traded a $4200 graphite-neck 6-string for this bass (and other stuff) and have never regretted it for a second. The 506 has a cleaner tone, just as much sustain, no dead notes anywhere on the neck, and an ease of playing that my other 6-string can't touch. The wood is not boutique-gorgeous, but it's well made and solid. The electronics are excellent. The neck is thin and the string action is lightning quick. I had been a lover of Ibanez 4-strings from 20 years past, and this 2009 bass was another step up from the oldies. I have never been as happy with a bass right out of the box before. After a bit of experimentation, I found this bass works by far the best when I stick with the strings that came on it, light Elixirs (you have to buy a single .32 C and .125 B to match the light 4-string set).

best 6 under 1000

Comments about Ibanez SR506 Soundgear 6-String:

I was in the market for a new bass for playing and recording. I decided to get a good look at all the 6's in the market for under 1000. I bought the SR 506BM and got twice for what I paid for. Great playability and custom shop looks, features and amazing tone. The Bartolini pickups have a great warm to treble tone that works well for slapping. Even the Elixirs have a great bite for tapping and thumping. Its lightweight but retains that nice heavy bass tone and feel. The neck is awesome and stable, stays in tune well and is an awesome looking bass. Definitely worth getting.

Infriggencredible

Comments about Ibanez SR506 Soundgear 6-String:

This Bass is what it says above, Infriggencredible, its a bit heavy at first but you'll get used to it, otherwise, the Active Bartolini pickups are awesome, you can get any sound out of um. the solid mahogany body gives it a very full sound, although it is dented easily(very soft wood). Its great for whatever you can throw at it. And its extremely versatile. Buy this bass.

Great Bass

Comments about Ibanez SR506 Soundgear 6-String:

I started off with a Fender p-bass before I decided a new bass was at hand. I looked all around for a six string that was affordable, but well made. I tried Warrick, Ken Smith, all the expensive brands and you couldn't tell the difference between a Ken Smith $2000 and the Ibanez 506. It has a beautiful sound, whether you're playing some bright Chilli Peppers or Korn, it matched just the sound you need. Only complaint is it has a very soft wood body, very easily dented.

Comments about Ibanez SR506 Soundgear 6-String:

Bass was shipped in 2 days! The Ibanez 506BM sounds and plays better than high end basses. Great low end punch, good for slapping, tapping, etc...The Elixir's Nanoweb strings are super great! Don't forget about the Bartolini pickups and the 3-band pre-amp. This is my first 6-string bass and I luv it! Thank you music123 for being there every step of the way! Now I'm waiting for U to start sale of the 450 watt-combo Behringer, it's Hot! Signing off, Peace!

simply the best for the price!

Comments about Ibanez SR506 Soundgear 6-String:

I have played many bass guitar such as Ken Smith, music man, spector, worrior, and other Ibanez basses and this SR506 is hands down the best bass for my style. The neck is very friendly and does not tire you when playing those long gigs, and, a huge plus, it has the same hardware as a $3,000 Tobias at a fraction of the price. If you love a quick, crisp, responce, this is the bass for you! Keep up the good work IBANEZ.

it's cool

Comments about Ibanez SR506 Soundgear 6-String:

I have played this bass, and I used to own its predecessor, the SR406. The 406 had a soft maple body and maple neck, thus bright and sustaining tone. With all maple, what do you expect?!?! This one, however, has all of the sustain of the 406, but the mahogany, wenge, and bubinga give a very nice, well balanced tone. You still get bright highs, especially with the Bartolini EQ on board this puppy, but also great lows and smooth mids. This bass also has better string spacing than the 406 did, as it isn't as tight. The SR506 is a great bass for slapping techniques and Wooten-style thumb work. The string spacing is just right for me to play finger style with big hands and fingers, but is also tight enough for good pick technique as well. For progressive players using advanced techniques with your bands, like harmonics and tapping, place the pickup balance slightly toward the bridge pickup. These techniques punch through better from the bridge pickup on this bass. In my opinion, this is an excellent bass to use as a backup if you own a high-end bass, or to use as your high-end bass. ;) As far as improvements that could be made: and ebony fingerboard would be better for this bass than the rosewood because it would add a little bit of sweetness to the top end of the tone. That's just about it though! Buy this bass -- I'm going to! Be good, and remember to live while you're living your life. God bless!

This Bass rocks

Comments about Ibanez SR506 Soundgear 6-String:

I got an Ibanez 6 string in the spring of 99 and loved it. I thought it was amazing and played it nearly to death. I saved up a ridiculous amount of money to buy another 6 string bass, and I tried them all, the Warwicks, Laklands, Peavey, all of them, and none of them touch the Ibanez. This is the second Ibanez 506 (or comparable model) I own so far, and easily the best 6 string you can buy that isn't a $10,000 handmade custom. Go out, plug one into an Ampeg and try it, you will probably come home with it.

Comments about Ibanez SR506 Soundgear 6-String:

This bass is what a bass should be. I especially love the EQ - I can get whatever sound I want! If I'm doing a lot of harmonics and tapping, I can boost the treble, if I'm slapping, I'll boost the mids, too. Metal...you guessed it, turns that bass up! To show how progressive I am, I plan on installing a custom Floyd-Rose tremolo system on this beast!

Awesome Bass

Comments about Ibanez SR506 Soundgear 6-String:

This bass is a great value for bassist looking for fantastic sound on a low budget. It sounds like a Ken Smith, Fender P bass, you name it. I played one in the music store and my friend brought one by my house and I just had to get one. The wood is soft so be careful how you handle it. What a mighty fine Bass guitar, have lots of musical fun.
