King 2102L Jiggs Whigham Trombone
Legend 2B trombone, The King Model 2102L is known as the Jiggs Whigham model in honor of the renowned international artist who prefers it. The 2102L is a straight .491" (12.47mm) bore, lightweight version of the 2B. The slide assembly is designed and constructed so that its weight is kept to a minimum. This reduction in weight allows remarkable facility in rapid passages and reduces player fatigue on long gigs. The 2102L features a 7-3/8" (187mm) yellow brass bell and nickel silver outer slide tubes, and it comes with a King 12C mouthpiece and deluxe covered case.

After reading many reviews of King jazz trombones, I decided to put them to the test. After playing Bach's my entire life, I wanted to see if a King was really easier to play. After trying several examples in my home town, I went to the King factory in East Lake, Ohio to try all of the various 3B and 2B configurations. I was amazed at the differences between my Bach 12 and the King trombone comparables. And my Bach 12 with a gold brass bell and light weight slide was no slouch. It was made in the mid 80's. It is a great horn. But, the King was really that much better. I settled on a Jigg's slide with a yellow brass 2B bell. I preferred the straight .491 bore to the 2B's usual dual bore. It just takes less effort to play everything!!! After I returned home, I went to my first rehearsal with it and everyone wanted to know how it was possible for me to sound that much better in just one day. It was the horn. You really ought to try one. Try all bell material configurations before you buy. There are tremendous response differences between the sterling, gold brass, and yellow brass. And, if you can, go to the factory, they'll treat you like a King!

Once my dream horn, now a reality...This horn does it all. It gets all over the place. The upper register is great. Everything above high B flat really sings out. Lightest weight horn I have ever picked up. I am able to blend in my jazz ensemble and come out for lead work. This horn has a bright yet dark sound that you want in a trombone.

"Never gets in your way"

I've been playing this horn for nearly a decade now, and I'm extremely satisfied. I tried out a wide variety of trombones at the 2002 International Trombone Festival, but when I picked this one up, it played so much more effortlessly than anything else I had tried …the horn does what you tell it to do, and never gets in your way. It works well in a variety of contexts (I've done big band, jazz combo, and pops orchestral work with it), but it really shines for melody work (improv solos, etc.), as you might have guessed from the signature on the bell. Highly recommended.
