I play for the Spirit of Houston Marching Ban; I used to play on a 1 1/2c before I discovered the Marcinkiewicz Signature mouthpieces. By switching to the Bobby Shew 1, my range has increased four notes after only six months. I am up to a double B above the staff. The bite and feel of the mouthpice is great, I love this mouthpiece and you will too.

I never have been really happy with my 14A4A and after hearing our new trumpet player's Marcinkiewicz, I made the call. Spoke with the factory rep for at least 30 minutes. He asked a lot of questions and made his recommendation. After two weeks, all I can say is "outstanding". Bright, big, fat, sexy sound with a great, easy high end and a pretty good bottom end also. I use it with a C.G. Benge (.468). I tried it in another players new Viper and found the top end slightly better but not as warm. Does away with the thin sound of the 14A4A. Must be the backbore. Going to try a couple of other models in the Marcinkiewicz line. It even gave new life to my 76 year old (ser. #3000) Olds Super. Gets 6 stars out of 5. Price is also outstanding. Just don't match it with a lightweight trumpet and expect to blend with the Bachs in an Orchestra. It would also be great for R&B, Salsa, Mariachi and marching bands

"Great Lead Piece"

This Lead piece by Marcinkiewicz is the best Lead piece I have ever played. It is great for players who can play a shallow piece. Adolfo Acosta, Scott Engelbright and Brian MacDonald all use this mouthpiece. Players who are accustomed to the Schilke line of mouthpieces will like this mouthpiece.

I really like the Shew #1 top, but I'm not too crazy about Marcinkiewicz backbores. As a result, I had a 1971 Bill Chase Jet-Tone backbore threaded to a Shew #1 with a #27 throat and it plays great! The Shew #1 top can compare to a 6A4a or Giardinelli 10S but perhaps a bit more "narrow" and more "bite" on the rim. It aids in preventing the ole "bottoming out" problem. This piece is not recommended for "all around" playing or "legit" playing by any means. It's a lead and or high-note MPC period. I highly recommend a Shew #1 top if you're going to be playing lead and high-notes. I might suggest a backbore made by somebody else as the backbore that comes stock on a Shew #1 is a bit tubby sounding for me, that's why I added the older Jet-Tone backbore on it. Apart from that, it works great!

"Good For Lead, nothing else"

I have the Bobby Shew 1.5", and it's a great lead piece. Good tone in the upper register, but tone goes a little flat and fuzzy on the low notes. Increased my range from D above the staff to Super G. It's only good for lead high notes, though. It's tone on low and midrange notes isn't even good enough for solos. It's only worth the money if you play loud, extremely high notes for long periods of time.
