Description

Rigotti Gold Baritone Saxophone Reeds
Rigotti Gold Baritone Sax Reeds represent the finest in precision and playability. Hand picked and precisely cut, these reeds are consistent, focused and durable. Box of 10.

The Best Cane

Ets Rigotti owes part of their reputation to their materials. The canes of the Var, and Cogolin regions of France are among the best in the world. Grown alongside rivers and streams, in an large area that is maintained all year round.

Cutting

Rigotti Gold reeds are cut during a winter afternoon over four months from December to March. When the cane has reached maturity (after two years when it measures seven to eight meters with a diameter of 26cm to 32cm), it is cut left in the open where it will be worked on. The work on the reeds is split into stages: we use a 'plumes' to dispose of all the excess and 'feathers', we only keep the 2 or 3 meters from the base (the rest is either burned or used as bamboo). Then the tubes are cut (from the base to the top), and the knots are thrown to obtain batons suited to music. This is where the true work starts, each tube is calibrated to a particular instrument. The double reeds are for the oboe and bassoon, which must be wet to be bent and attached.

"Playing these reeds is like waking up from a deep slumber!!"

Rigotti baritone reeds in the correct strength for you and your mouthpiece setup are simply sensational. I have been playing baritone for a very long time but have simply failed to find any reeds that I can honestly say are any good. I have tried all the major brands, the Rico jazz select work although they are rather buzzy and lack depth of tone - especially in the upper and lower registers; Vandoren ZZ are entirely useless on all of my mouthpieces - way to short by at least a half inch; Alexander Superial are to unreliable in the accuracy of the cut although you can get a good 1 in a tin if you're lucky - to be fare I haven't bought them in recent years but when I did back about 7 years ago I bought at least 30 boxes. So have a fair indication of their quality control back then and can only hope they have lifted their game since that time. Rigotti reeds - like green eggs and ham - try them and you may (like them) I say.
