The Artisan Collection from Bach

Vincent Bach

Bom March 24, 1880, in Austria as Vincent Schrottenbach, Vincent Bach began his musical career as a violinist before switching to trumpet at the age of 15. Shortly after arriving in the United States in 1914, the young Vincent was inducted into the US Army where he became bandmaster of the 306th Field Artillery Band in Long Island, New York. In 1918, Bach opened his first shop on East 85th Street in New York City where he handcrafted mouthpieces. As his reputation grew, the need for more space drove him to open a new shop on East 41st Street. It was here that the first Bach trumpets were manufactured. A mere 6 years later, the Bach Company again needed more space to keep up with demand, so Vincent relocated a third time to East 216th Street in the Bronx. From the Bronx facility came the first trombone bearing the name Bach in 1929.

Over the years, the company produced several ranges of trumpets, cornets, flugelhorns and trombones, using the brand names Apollo, Minerva, Mercury, Mercedes and Stradivarius. The Vincent Bach Corporation moved in 1953 from New York City to Mount Vemon, New York, where Bach retired in 1961.

Since that date, the Vincent Bach Company has been operated by The Selmer Company (Conn-Selmer) in Elkhart, Indiana. True to Vincent's vision, Conn-Selmer, Inc. painstakingly follows Bach's original designs and prints to manufacture Bach Stradivarius instruments, the sound choice of professionals.
