Comments about Vandoren Eb Clarinet Mouthpiece Series:
As an advancing clarinetist, i knew it was time to start expanding my repertoire with the auxiliary clarinets. The process of beginning the E-flat clarinet was, as with everyone, a pain in the neck. A BIG pain in the neck! I normally used 2 1/2 or 3 Vandoren reeds on Bb, so i started Eb with this B44 mouthpiece and 2 1/2 traditional Vandoren reeds. This makes a great combination for anyone playing the Eb in an intermediate band or orchestra. The higher notes may be very resistant and/or sharp if your beginning the E-flat for the first time, and this will vary with your reed/instrument. If you're starting E-flat, don't be surprised if high notes sound (REALLY!) bad, or just don't come out at all. It's not the mouthpiece's fault - that's just the difficulty of the Eb. After about a year of playing, i'm using it with thickness 3 reeds, and it sounds great! (or as great as the Eb clarinet can sound!) I'm not saying this is going to make playing the Eb a breeze; nothing can do that. But if your looking to begin playing the Eb, be you student or professional, this mouthpiece is a great combination with Vandoren reeds, and is always a blast to play! It has a very comfortable resistance, makes a rich and full tone, and can easily change from the sweet, quiet Dolce of Ravel's Bolero, to the loud shrillness of Till Eulenspiegel. I recommend you try all three mouthpieces to find out which you prefer. I assume the other two are as amazing as the B44!
