OVERVIEW

A potent little combo with in gorgeous British racing green attire.

As part of the VTX Series, the Valvetronix VT20X is a perfect combination of innovation and tradition. These amps combine sophisticated modeling technology with a multi-stage tube pre-amp circuit to reproduce the unique distortion, touch sensitivity, and the response that is characteristic of classic tube amps. Its unique modeling algorithm actually recreates the analog circuits of some of the most coveted tube amplifiers and allows you to adjust the gain structure and bias of the internal tube in real time. Also, when using certain models, the amp can be switched between Class A and Class AB operation.

The effects section has also been revamped and now offers 12 classic effects based on some of the most iconic stompboxes of all time. These amps also feature a USB port, which allows you to connect the amplifier to their PC, Mac or iOS device (with optional USB Camera Adapter Kit) and manage programs and customize amps and effects by using VOX’s Tone Room software. The Tone Room software allows for deep editing of all of the great amps and effects so you can carefully craft your sound, which can then be saved as one of the eight customizable programs. There is also a built-in tuner, an AUX-in jack for jamming along with recorded music, and a headphone jack for silent practice.

And, with its British racing green color palette, this versatile little rocker provides plenty of eye candy to match its tonal mastery.

Like the previous vox modeler amps, they just cant seem to figure out how to give any attack and presence to each of their distortion models. This version has a slight improvement over its predecessors on providing more treble voicing to its tone but, the notes still don't sound whole but, once again mushy. Anybody who's played a real tube amp would know a good solid tone and this doesn't have it

Comments about Vox Limited Edition Valvetronix VT20X BRG 20W 1x8 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

Let's just say I was around and playing the guitar when Vox was in it's early days.
There came a time when I, and and my band mates, owned Vox amps and dumped them, very disappointed in the lack of power, and sound quality.
We were told it was because the American made versions weren't made the same as the British versions.
I think they were just inferior junk, back then, which is why you mostly saw fender amps being used by everyone.
The Vox Guitars were considered stylistic but, again, junk!
We had a store called Vox Hall that also sold Rickenbacker, so it was a no-brainer when it came to which guitars to buy.
Today the Vox guitars, and organs, are very collectable and cool to own.
The new Vox is in a league of it's own today.
I don't know about the 40 and 100 watt versions, but the 20 watt version, I bought, blows the walls down.
The variety of amps and effects is amazing, and the tone room is really cool for getting just the sound you want,
Unless you need massive volume coming off a stage, I don't see why anyone would need more than the 20 watt version.
With a good Microphone in front of the speaker, sent through the monitors and mains, the 20 watt version will cover any gig.
Vox is finally on top in my book.
    Buy one.

Comments about Vox Limited Edition Valvetronix VT20X BRG 20W 1x8 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

I purchased the AD30 several years ago and have no idea what I did with it. I was worried that the VT20 version would be too small and it is definitely not! Nope, It won't go over a drum kit and I see no reason to mic it through a P.A. system. It is, however, a wonderful little amp that has the ability to give you exactly what you want with very few limitations. The presets are kinda cool but I really don't see any need for them. I run the amp on full manual almost 100% of the time and I'm good to go. It might take a few hours to figure out the amp models you like, but ABSOLUTELY NOTHING is wasted here and you will use each one for sure. After selling my AD30, I began working at a local music store where many popular modeling amp lines were sold. After hours of playing with each one of them, the Vox always came out on top. Let me put it in the most simple of terms. Let's say you have 6 nice guitars in your arsenal and only one practice amp. The Vox VT series is going to do almost everything you want it to no matter if you are holding a Telecaster or a Jackson. Your friends will look at you in awe when holding a Tele and running through a Slayer riff. It works both ways as well! Take one of the most aggressive guitars you own and run it through a clean setting. No kidding...it's magic! For personal practice and small recording applications, this beauty stands on its own almost perfectly. When jamming with the boyz you are definitely going to want some extra power. The VT40 version is definitely loud and gig-worthy, but for that, it kinda' defeats the purpose. You will definitely be surprised at the volume the 6" speaker puts out without sacrificing sound or power. I came very close to talking myself out of buying this and going with the 40W model instead and I am ceratinaly glad I didn't. The fact is, there was no need to go with anything bigger.

Comments about Vox Limited Edition Valvetronix VT20X BRG 20W 1x8 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

I have been playing and collecting amps for over 35 years, and this is the second modeling amp I have owned. I wanted something small but with a variety of sounds that I could easily use in my apartment. I chose the Vox VT20X because the amp uses a real 12AX7 preamp tube, the tons of available amp and effect models, and the fact that the British Racing Green covering just looks cool ! Getting basic usable sounds is easy, and you are free to tweak to your heart's delight once you learn to navigate the controls. The USB out allows you to further tweak sounds via the Vox Tone Room software (which can be easily downloaded for free from their website).

For the money, this amp is a real value, with loads of sonic possibilities. You probably would't want to gig with it, unless you spring for the optional foot switch to change sounds (and then mic it), but for a home/bedroom amp, it's perfect. My only real complaints are: 1) the lack of a recording/ line out, which makes mic-ing or using the 1/8" headphone out as the only recording options, and 2) the power supply is a flimsy 'wall wart' style plug with a thin cord that could easily be damaged if you plan on moving the amp around a lot.

Comments about Vox Limited Edition Valvetronix VT20X BRG 20W 1x8 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

I really don't know where to start. I'm a big fan of tube amps, but not a fan of how loud they have to be to achieve any kind of breakup or overdrive. This amp lets me get very usable tube amp tones at bedroom volume - PERFECT! It's got the built-in effects I use most frequently (BYOWah) AND a tuner! This amp is a no-brainer. I was so pleased to have found one of these in the Limited Edition British Racing Green and snag it as an Open Box deal for one hundred fifty eight.
Seriously. I'm in love with this thing. I plug in a guitar to this thing, and I've got about everything I need for a small jam or bedroom practice.

This amp is fantastic. For the price I can't see finding a better amp. The responsiveness of the tube is great and makes the amp models come alive. For a twenty watt amp this thing gets LOUD.!! Vox really hit one out of the park with this amp.

Comments about Vox Limited Edition Valvetronix VT20X BRG 20W 1x8 Guitar Modeling Combo Amp:

The bottom line is that I love the versatility of this amp and everything works as advertised with a stylish look. For under 200, you really can't go wrong. The different amp sounds are amazing. And although I don't have a bunch of vintage 1950s amps to compare, you can sound like a bunch of your favorite records with very little issues. I got the British racing green one and it is beautiful. I also considered the Fender Mustang GT, but the current version has no style at all, a black Radio Shack looking thing. The Mustang, has a lot of great metal sounds, but if you're looking for clean sounds, go for this Vox. It is prone to feedback since you turn up the "power level" and there is a separate volume switch. So you can have a tweed turned up all the way and have the sound not very loud coming out of the amp, but if you face the thing, you will get feedback. But not inappropriately or in a way that is inconsistent with other amp use. The cord input is sensitive and I have to use short cords to eliminate any "moving around" noises. I'm making it sound like a big deal, but it's not. Another reason I wanted it was that I like to be able to carry all my equipment at once and this amp weighs about fifteen pounds. One concern I had was that the volume would be loud enough to clear a drum set and I need not have worried at all. Granted, I play in a pretty quiet band, but I think I could do a small gig with this. I also have an AC15 and rarely got it turned up a quarter of the way for gigs. I turned this up about halfway and it was completely filling the room and making my bandmates angry. The pedal is a must-have for convenience to change sounds. But that's another 60 on musician's friend. You do need to buy cords to use it with your phone or PC. I have an iPhone, so I had to buy a 30 lightning to USB Camera adapter" to plug it into my phone and another cord to go from the USB mini B plug to USB. So I'm almost one hundred in on peripherals.

The power supply is, well, stupid and flimsy. The volume has to much modeling variance and is way too quiet for phones jack. The amp has some nice sounds and ok effects, but is too flakey to be serious for major gigs or recording. I would go with an AV-15 over this any day. only buy it for a decent practice amp and church or coffee house use.
