P. Mauriat PMXA-67R Series Professional Alto SaxophonePMXA-67R Series Alto Saxophones incorporates P. Mauriat's unique rolling process which fully utilizes the saxophone's existing material. Unlike rolled tone holes of the past, there is no soldering here, the tone holes are drawn from the body and then rolled over allowing superior resonance throughout the entire saxophone and increased response in all ranges. The PMXA-67R also has an enlarged bell that lets the warm, fat sound of this exceptional horn really cut through an ensemble. This professional class instrument also features a Super VI style neck, abalone key touches, and hand engraving on the bell and bow. PMXA-67R Series Alto Saxophones are available in four unique finishes: vintage dark lacquer (DK), classic gold lacquer (GL), cognac lacquer (CL), and raw brass (UL). Each lacquer lends a different color to the sound.PMXA-67R DK – The vintage dark lacquer finish compliments the PMXA- 67R with a warm round sound players will fall in love with. PMXA-67R GL – A gold lacquer finish has a slightly more brilliant tone than the vintage dark lacquer and offers players the classic look, feel, and response that one should expect of a professional saxophone.PMXA-67R CL – Cognac lacquer gives the player a new and unique look and feel as well as free response. It's very uniform in all registers with the outstanding intonation quality.PMXA-67R UL – Unfinished raw brass allows this sax to resonate freely. In addition, the absence of lacquer allows the brass to age over time, creating a unique vintage look and feel.P. Mauriat leads the industry as the innovator of modern vintage saxophones and trumpets. Each horn is hand crafted from start to finish out of the very finest materials. From fresh ideas in metal combinations, to cutting edge neck designs and trend setting finishes, P. Mauriat continually works to solidify their reputation for creating horns that offer the sound, response, ergonomics and intonation that will impress even the most demanding players.

I discovered P Mauriat saxophones while I was in search for a horn for college. I could not afford a Selmer Paris Saxophone and so I look at low end Yanis and Yamahas, and the P Mauriat. I find that this saxophone's sound fits its look. It has a broad, dark sound and the bell allows for easier projection. I am a classical saxophonist (in the minority) but I must say that this saxophone is great for classical and jazz musicians alike. The register is fantastic, and on my Vandoren AL3 I find that my sound is better than ever. One of the key issues people have with new saxophone brands is how durable they are. This saxophone is strong. I am not sure if this is the rolled tone hole model, but I got the rolled tone hole model. The keys do not stick, if taken care of, and will last for a long time. After playing on my directors Mark VI and VII, I decided that this saxophone has an almost identical feel WITHOUT the downside of being aged, and possibly a little rickety. This is a great saxophone, and I would recommend P Mauriat for those who are not willing to spend twice as much on a Selmer.
Phenomenal is the only word I can use to describe this horn. I love it. I got one in the Dark Lacquer and the finish is truly amazing. The keys and the pads are very VERY strong. The whole saxophone itself feels like a tank its that strong! Its not as heavy as my old Cannonball which is good, but it feels very solid. The only complaint I have is that it prefers to be a jazz horn. This thing can SCREAM with a jazz mouthpiece and the large bell helps project sound like none other. I also play classical which can prove difficult because the key action is kind of clunky and noisy. Its not a problem with jazz because a band covers it up, but when you play by yourself its definitely noticeable for me at least. The overall intonation is good but there are some quarks that make it unique. Sometimes the higher register is flat and the lower is sharp (its usually vice versa). The horn is also picky on close chambered mouthpieces. My AL3 is very hard to deal with on this horn sound wise and intonation is also difficult. But open chambered jazz pieces seem to have no problem with intonation. The high register comes out effortlessly while the lows come out creamy and smooth (mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm) This is a great horn if you can get around its minor flaws. Some of those flaws might just be me
This sax has a great sound,I have had mine for close to a year now and have noticed some things. The register break is very sharp, D, D# an E. The low notes come out great in this horn with a good resonance. Also when trilling from high c to d, the e side key is so sharp it sounds like a D-half#.
That aside the pinky keys are very comfortable and this sax feels very comfortable under the fingers
I have my own P. Mauriat PMXA-67RCL and I love everything about it! It has superior playability, a unique and awesome look, and has a feel like no other sax I have ever played! The sax has a very similar sound and feel as a Selmer Mark VI does (I played them back to back), but with great key-work that allows for almost effortless playability! This is a horn that I would recommend for anyone who can't afford the ever so pricey Selmer Reference saxophones, but would like a horn that plays almost Identical to one!
